Wow.. looks like the towns are true 3D after all and not the 2D within a 3D plane diorama/parallax trick I was originally thinking.. although I do still wonder if there's some sort of diorama illusion and you can't go full 360 camera rotation.

Looks like they've done another nice dev diary on day and night cycles that appear to change the city screen too which is cool.
