One minute before the new year, people gather with their drinks, a few last-minute presents are traded, an old friend who has been through a rough month grants you an unexpected smile, a new-born calls for some attention, an enthusiastic cousin has yet another drink... Digital photography allows to write in stone moments that would otherwise been lost over time. I love being able to share pictures with my family hours only after a special occasion, pictures that actually don't suck despite my limited skills. It sure provides an incentive for older relatives to teach themselves that Internet thing. If only we could get rid of flashes and those obstrusive close-up shots while you're in a middle of a conversation.
