IGN has a nice little feature about the current state of computer role-playing games on the PC. They list three sub-genres, compare computer RPGs with their console counterparts and explain how the early pen-and-paper games from the 1970s were adapted over the years to be playable on a computer (and, much later, suitable for a very large number of players spread across the world). One of the most influential RPGs was, obviously, Might and Magic:

"Graphics improved over the next few years with titles like Bard's Tale in 1985 and Might and Magic in 1986. Might and Magic stood out for more than just great graphics, however. It offered the same sort of party-based adventuring found in Wizardry but lacked many of the previous game's complications."

You can read all six pages here. We're still waiting for any kind of detail regarding a potential new Might and Magic game. Fabrice appears to have a secret he is still holding on to, and hopefully he will share some information later this Summer. Imagine a Might and Magic game that continues the Heroes V world and storyline, shares some key characters and even allows you to meet again your favorite heroes from the Heroes game. Dungeon Siege II sure sounds boring compared to that.
