Fog of War where are you?

The new Heroes games produced by Ubisoft. Please specify which game you are referring to in your post.

I at first disliked the FoW. And it had major flaws in H4, no doubt, but I think it was a good idea and (with work) could be nice. A toggle-able Fog would be a nice compromise, I feel.

As a diehard wargamer, I liked FOW. The "hunt the little peeps" issue would
fade if factions surrendered once their army/hero strength dropped below a
certain point (either on a player-by-player basis or overall, like in Warlords).
Since my chance of buying H5, given other info, currently hovers around
5%, the lack of FOW is rather irrelevant at this point for me.

The FoW that restores itself belongs in the RTS genre, heroes is good with what we've got now, imo.

Oh really?So it ruins the expirience of civ games?FoW should be there,but it should restore itself at the end of turn.

Last time I checked this was the Heroes 5 forum. What you are saying is "Hey in Quake you can survive a 50 meter fall, let's add that to Splinter Cell because it's so cool in Quake".

All he's saying is that it works in Civ. which is a comparable game. So it has a big chance of working in HoMM.


I don't really mind not having FoW, but it was probably implemented so heroes can be tracked faster, thus speeding up the game.

Big diference in rules.Rules in HoMM and in civ are similar in realism.And scouting the map is almost identical in these two games:You move your army every turn for a number of spaces,and it reveals the land depending on its LoS.

We can agree to disagree. The only thing in common civ and heroes have is that they are both TBS. Other then that, in my opinion, they are totally different games.

It does go better with RTS, your remark would be valid if I said that Heroes and Civ were comparable, but I actually said the opossite. I guess you have the "jump-to-conclusions" disease :devious:

But yes, I do hate Heroes 4, even though I tried to like it, I really did :ill:

They cannot be compared.There isnt a single thing that connects a shooter with a strategy game(well maybe in the rare cases of tactical squad games,and the citizen kabuto,but thats all)

All I have to say to you is that every succesful TBS that I can think of has FoW, H3 does not have it just because it's very old and at that time FoW was not so common as of now. FoW has lots of benefits for a strategy game be they RTS or TBS, while it has no downside ( apart from making the game a bit harder, but those that want an easier game can always turn it off )
