"The idea was really simple at the start: simply mark the path used by the hero. But while working on this new feature, we realized it had a nice potential. The trail could be different from one hero to the next! It could be different depending on the hero’s level, thus providing a pleasant feedback to his growth in the game. (...) This idea has also been used in some maps where you need to avoid enemy heroes, and thus trails give you very important information to solve the map."
So the game might include stealth-based scenarios like in Heroes IV? Interesting.
