The town screen artwork will change based on the terrain the town is sitting on now, and all buildings will be in the same place in all towns. For example, the level 2 creature dwelling will be in the same location on the screen in all 6 towns. This should make it easier for new players to find the buildings they are looking for, and this should hopefully make it easier to tell what is what. More information about the towns:
- Academy - is the home of lawful creatures and is tied to the school of Order magic. Academy armies can charm the enemy forces to fight on their side using magic. This town will most closely resemble Tower from Heroes III, and maybe have some similarities to the Sorceress town from Heroes II.
- Necropolis - uses Death magic and can raise forces from the dead after a battle. This town is most similar to the Necropolis from Heroes II/III
- Asylum - uses Chaos magic and it's heroes have high intelligence so they can cast many spells. It sounds like it will be most similar to the Dungeon from Heroes III, possibly with some creatures from the Fortress or Inferno as well.
- Haven - is very similar to the Castle from Heroes III, will be mostly humans, and it uses Life magic which allows them to resurrect lost units after winning a battle.
- Preserve - is a nature-based town, and they use Nature magic. They have the ability to add new forces to their army after winning a battle. This will probably be similar to the Rampart with some creatures from the Conflux as well.
- Stronghold - does not have Mage Guilds, but instead has a Breeding Pit that increases creature production in the town. Stronghold heroes will not have magic, but make up for that deficiency by starting with three secondary skills (instead of two) and having more items available for purchase in the Blacksmith. Stronghold will also be able to recruit any kind of hero, while other towns can only recruit heroes associated with that town.
Towns can only hire heroes of their own kind, except Stronghold which can hire any kind of hero. Creature dwellings above level 1 in each town will offer two choices for what to build, so one Academy could be vastly different from another in terms of creature production. For example, you might be able to choose to build a shooter or a flyer for your level 2 creature dwelling, and an infantry or shooter for the level 3 dwelling. The blacksmiths will allow heroes to buy magic items and potions - potions will mimic some magic spell effects such as Cure.
If you build a prison in your town, you'll be able to capture enemy heroes that you defeat, and your opponent will have to rescue them to use them again.
