Annoying Puzzle Map
I do appreciate that you can just go digging, unlike Heroes IV where it would not appear until you had visited a certain number of Oracles.
It's too bad, though, that there is only one treasure and apparently always the same one. That's a step back.
And they continue to make the Tear the objective of the game, so that it ends before you ever get to enjoy the benefits.

Your Heroes 4 Campaign, Dragon's Fate was wonderful! So please don't walk away from the entire M&M Universe, Jeff. Only Heroes 5!jeff wrote: … Call it just one more irritation I am finding in H-V. Its beautiful graphics and basic game show a lot of promise and I think will end up being an amazing game. However my frustration toward this game keeps driving me away for days before I can bring myself to sit down in from of the monitor and continue. I am inches (sorry centimeters) from walking away from the entire Heroes and M&M universe and not look back.
I'm in the same boat. I decided to give Heroes 5 a fair chance; I'm on my second time through the campaigns but so far with all the annoying bugs, glitches, irksome user interface, hideous voice acting, insipid storyline & unmemorial Heroes, I can truthfully say that I don't really like this game in its present state. I don't look forward to playing Heroes 5 … in fact it's almost a drudgery!
Maybe after the patches and Map Editor are released, things will improve … but for now, I don't look forward to playing Heroes 5 at all. Thank goodness for Heroes 4 with Equilibris and Heroes 3 with WoG.
You're right of course; I am just in a bit of a rut working the next campaign and am frustrated that neither Equilibris 3.6 nor the H-V editor is out, so I can't really start any maps. I had hoped H-V would be a good distraction while I waited, but no it’s more frustrating than fun. Perhaps when 3.6 is out or if all the patches fix things in H-V I'll feel different.HodgePodge wrote: So please don't walk away from the entire M&M Universe, Jeff. Only Heroes 5!

Then tamper with HIV custom maps for a while.Theres tons of good ones.Plus you might even find some new scripts.jeff wrote:You're right of course; I am just in a bit of a rut working the next campaign and am frustrated that neither Equilibris 3.6 nor the H-V editor is out, so I can't really start any maps. The Tears of Asha is massive 'reward', why should it be easy to find? Maybe finding all the obelisks isn't good enough...And actually, as it is now, it is easy to find it. Thanks to already mentioned movement paths, and also for seeing almost everything else on it but heroes and monsters.HodgePodge wrote:Does anyone else find the revealed Puzzle Map annoying, irritating & just downright frustrating? After spending hours locating every Obelisk, I am "rewarded" with an obscure picture in dark blue and almost no defining features to indicate where the Tear of Asha is buried.
Even Heroes II & III had much better Puzzle Maps. Heroes IV was the best (when the "X" showed up). It shows exactly where and in what state the area is in, where the Grail is buried at the current time.
The Puzzle Map in Heroes V isn't very clear. Sometimes it doesn't reveal enough of the terrain to be of any help at all. You'd think that with all the graphical features Nival put into this game, they would have been able to create a better Puzzle Map!

Its quite enough to put 2 mountains on the map and the tear next to them and suddenly you have no clue where it is.And its quite a poor visibility.Especially with all those trees on the map. Also, the dificulty of finding the tear depends only on the mapmaker. It can be quite easy(put one obelisk next to players town and the tear right in front of the entrance),or quite hard(the map with no obelisks but riddle messages, forgot the name).Nebs wrote:The Tears of Asha is massive 'reward', why should it be easy to find? Errr, I'd think spending 8-12 hours searching and finding all the Obelisks would be the only prerequisite to finding the "reward". Not so with Heroes 5 … Nival in their lazy, haphazard way left the Puzzle Map unfinished too … and very frustrating!Nebs wrote: The Tears of Asha is massive 'reward', why should it be easy to find? I haven't had the "pleasure" of seeing any of my Heroes movement trails on the Puzzle Map. I'll have to see if I can use that clue. Anyhow, the Puzzle Map doesn't show "almost everything else" … it is too unclear & darkly monochromatic.
On some maps it's easier to know where to look; but on others it's just about impossible to find the place because none of the objects are shown on the Puzzle Map, only the bare terrain before any of the decorations or adventure map objects are placed. Besides, the visibility is too dark and obscure and hides even those objects which are supposed to be clues. In my opinion, it STINKS!
the same for me, quite on the same line horizontally, in the southwest of the map . I had some problems to find it whereas I visited all obelisks.Bonzer wrote:I can confirm that the location varies, as mine was more to the southwest than the (very good) picture supplied by Sikon at the start of this post.

Well, the "bare terrain" map was used in Heroes 2 - and then no hero trails either. Also, IIRC, in H2, the whole map was done in sepia tones- I liked that touch.
I haven't had any difficulty finding the tear once the puzzle was revealed- although I usually needed 2 or 3 digs to get the right spot.
Right now, I just began Dragon Pass, and when I got the first obelisk, that very obelisk appeared in the section I revealed! When I get back to the map, I need to hire a new hero to start digging around the area...
Anyway, I don't find a problem with this implementation.

I agree 100%.. The puzzle maps are the worse I have ever seen and to me they are NO help at all and are totally flustrating to say the least!!! I really really hope they fix this stupid asinine feature asap but you all know this will never happen.. sighHodgePodge wrote:Does anyone else find the revealed Puzzle Map annoying, irritating & just downright frustrating? Revealed Puzzle Map
I always save before I have to dig so a day is not lost, but sometimes it takes a couple of goes before I find it so I just reload that last saved game & move the hero around a bit & then I try again. It seems it has to be exactly on the right spot.
Well some are too picky here and H5 isnt even finished yet! Its not difficult for me either to find the grail in the few games I have tried, its just that Im focusing more on keeping my territories safe than running around for a grail, no matter which homm game I have played.I don't understand why this is such a big deal
As for a neutral statement, yes its lame there are no "x" when uncovered the whole puzzle map, but yes its also neat, when searching that there are some help to get, like "its somewhere to the north". I dont want to think about what they here would have said if that one mini feature have been left out. Also the workaround, using the movement dots for finding the grail is just a neat sign of human creativity, though imo the hero trail is useless finding grail, it disappears to fast, but have it lasted longer, the frame rate would be upped.
