H4: your favourite lv2 unit

Unread postby BenchBreaker » 28 Apr 2006, 17:55

mine is the harpy, they are basically shooters with unlimited ammo and no melee/range/obstacle penalty, also they are fast and flying and no retal even when fighting melee!! in large numbers they are deadly (and if i can be bothered, i can always beat much stronger army of slow walkers with no loss, they are even better at "wait-attack-retreat-wait-attack" than sprites or vampie cos they retreat on their own!)

2nd favourite would be the medusa

ps: there isn't enough options to list each creature separately, so just vote for the option your favourite creature is in.

Yep the Medusa is quite a shooter. And the Minotaur ain't too shaby when he blocks.

Since it was given only pairs, I was trying to find a pair where I like both. Went with harpy/nomad combo. Second best would have been elf/tiger combo. But my favourite 2. level unit is medusa. Unfortunately minotaurs have so little movement that I dont like them at all so I couldnt go with that pair.

Even though my initial reaction was to go either with the tiger or the nomad (I just love those good speed + first strike combos), I ended up voting for the ghost. I'm usually very careful in playing my battles, I get very irked if I needlessly lose a troop (especially a higher level one), but with ghosts this does not apply. I'll divide them into several stacks and bombard the enemy reckless of the casualties, and then reap the rewards in the form of a severely crippled opponent. Voila!

Voted Elf/Tiger

The main problem with Harpies is their absolutely ridiculous (pre-Equilibris) requirement: a Citadel. 7500 gold is a bit much to be shelling out for a L2.
Far too many people speak their minds without first verifying the quality of their source material.

Elves are quite expensive as well(pre equi). They require hell of a lot of wood.

Yeah, but White Tigers aren't too bad, either. If I had the resources, I'd go with Elves, but White Tigers, w/First Strike and good speed, make for a tidy L2.

voted tigers
they're extremly useful and strong, probably without any drawbacks.
Second are Medusas and minotaurs.

vote minotaur/medusa
Medusa for the stoning power, and minotaurs can certainly be annoying if they so happen to block everything.

Me neither. :-D

Re: Cerberi. Though I like them, they are very frail and the AI is really bent on their destruction, so not many of them survive.

Re: Minotaur. It's funny, really. When fighting against them, the block ability kicked in way more often (off the top of my head it was some 75%, rather than the 40% in their description) than when I had them in my army.

They are great units, harpy for ru...fly and hit tactics and nomad are fast, sturdy melee units.

Minotaur. Nothing better than seeing the look on a friend's face in a hotseat game when your mintaur keeps blocking over and over. :D

Voted Ballistae.

Definitely a great shooter and doesn't get killed too easily :)
Never lets me down ;)

Second are elves. In vast numbers (and possibly a Bow of the Elf King) they can take out alot of the enemy forces. It is quite a shame that they are so weak when there's not alot of them though :(
This minor magical charm captures the viewer's attention and distra... ooo, pretty...

the problem with ballistae is they are too slow on the adv map, but they are extremely useful in siege, i usually don't bring them with a hero and use caravan to move them to the nearest town that i am going to attack.

Yeah, the ballistae are hellishly slow. Still, I'll choose them sometimes for the sake of diversity. I'll also pick them over the pikemen if I have another very slow unit in my army.

The Medusa is great but too slow. The ghost is really powerful, it gets slaughtered by spells but its aging touch is like four different cursing spells in one.
