Does it give you +1 level in exchange for some gems? ;)

Great art - I love it. Kinda looks like a Renoir.

@GE:

They already have that in the form of another adventure map object. However, since there is only one type of rare resource and its scarce, the cost is rendered extreme and you end up never using it.

It's been years since I last played any of the older games, but I recall that the tree of knowledge was asking for either gems or gold.

Treebeards :D Sylanna's Ancients are a level-up for a random cost; 10 gems, 2000 gold or free.

Yes, gems, gold or nothing. So apparently they carbon copied that to this game after all. Hmm.

Only it now asks for a standard amount of both gold and gems every time.

Why does a tree need gold or gems?

For luxury? It's not a regular tree, it's a sentient tree!

The Tree is not really bad-off or you'd never get the level-up for free.

Seriously, an aging tree needs some additional gold to buy fake leaves to keep the branches looking full and the gems?..they go to the fairies to cover the cost of the swirling lights :D

Also,gems can be used just in case it wants to retire as a Christmas tree.

@markkur -I think fake leaves are useful for looking like a younger tree and attracting more fairies :)

I know it was a fairy that told you; the trees would never to admit to using "will o' the wisp" tactics. :D

I am glad I asked why a tree needs gold and gems. :)
