Actually, I've generally liked the character development systems that Square-Enix has come up with in the FF games. They are usually quite different, which is always refreshing. It is one thing I like about D3- much better than the way D2 handled new skills. At least here you have a way to aim for specific skills (e.g.: I want more overland movement, and there is a +3 movement skill 4 spaces away. Now I know where to go- and I'll get the skill in 2 levels. Now which path is the best one to use...?)
BTW, how does the game run?
Keep in mind that my computer is around 6 years old now, but other than transitions to/from the hero/town screens it ran pretty smoothly. The overland movement was a bit slow- but there was also no control to adjust that speed (at least none I could find in the demo). There was a combat animation speed control, and when I set that to a faster level, combats were nice.
I definitely like the more tactical combat better.
Since the demo doesn't let you save/load (although there is an autosave active

) I probably won't play the other two factions in the demo. No obvious problems with the game. I think most D2 players will enjoy it- although the reduction to only 3 factions (from 5 in D2) may be a turn-off.
