I bought Civlization IV: Colonization recently and have been trying very hard to like it, but no success.
The game is just ... I don't know how to describe it. It has several strong points, such as the diplomacy interactions being fun and fresh, but there is just too much micro and too little action. You have to move resources from one town to another and back again, and in the meantime there's nothing for you to do. You pretty much end up spending the first 250 turns or so playing an imitation of The Sims. You repeat the same things over and over again, trading the same resources and doing nothing exciting.
And then the King's army always outnumbers yours by a huge amount. I spent one game nursing my empire up and up and up and had over 50 soldiers, dragoons and artillery, together with 8+ warships by the 250 turn. But the King had more than 5 times my forces. What the heck? How do you hope to win such an uneven battle? That's on the easiest difficulty, too (which I've still not managed to win on).
I really hoped to enjoy Civilization IV, since it scored so high ratings all over, but if Colonization is how Civilization IV plays like, I don't think it suits me.
I'm a hypocrite because I suggested that all life is sacred and should not be wasted without good reason.
