Patch "a" is already out, too. I haven't played "Shadow" extensively, but I must say the new darker terrain looks great!theLuckyDragon wrote:Shadow is out!
Sure, it still needs lots of balancing and playtesting.
I'll only be able to play it next week

There's a new patch out, been out a few weeks but I only just noticed. Had really lost any faith there'd be another.
Fixes a few things, breaks some things too as usual. But there's a fanfix out to fix those things, so all together it looks good. Wonder if it helps with the OOS in MP.

Who the hell locks these things?

Doing well on a large continent. I'm sharing it with 3 other civs though, and they're all equal or tougher in sthrength and technology. That's OK, though, because we're all united through Islam and the Apostolic Palace, so we have all signed Defensive Pacts with each other.
Bad: none of us can attack another, so none will get the continent to themselves.
Good: none of the heathen foreigners can attack, as it will trigger a universal jihad.
Why I'll win: I'm getting their cities through culture

Has anyone played the "Fall Furthur mod?" I'm getting crashes with it. With just the FFH2 mod I'm not getting crashes.
I also noticed there is a "scenerio" button in the top right hand corner that shows splash screens for scenarios but I can't figure out how to start playing the scenarios. It looks like they are a campaign maybe since they evidently have to be played in order.

You should check out the Fall Further section in the Modmod section of the Fall from Heaven subforum on civfanatics.com

The scenarios are coming in the final phase of the mod, called Ice. Right now we're in the next-to-last phase, Shadow. The team wants to have the mod pretty much smoothed out before entering the last stage, which will comprise the scenarios, fleshing out the Illian civilization and minor tweaks and balances that come up on the way.

The only ones I've played is Fall from Heaven 2 and the Fall Furthur (a mod which requires FFH2 and the Sword expansion.) I just started playing the mods a few days ago so I've only played with the Amurites (a mage heavy faction) and today I started playing with the Ljosalfar (wood elves.)
Everything looks good so far. Even though I had problems with Fall Furthur, you may not. It installs parallel to FFH2 so it won't cause problems with FFH2 regardless.
Each faction has some unique units and there are different religions and different kinds of magic. You need to have a mana source of the kind of magic you want to learn. There are heroes but they are rarer than in HOMM and are produced like normal units.
You can find a manual stickied in the FFH forums.

The manual will definitely be useful. They haven't really insisted on the newbie-friendliness yet, as they are still adding and tweaking stuff.
Here are a few charts you might find useful. Kael (the mod's developer) thought newbies could use them to get familiar with the mod.

I bought Civlization IV: Colonization recently and have been trying very hard to like it, but no success.
The game is just ... I don't know how to describe it. It has several strong points, such as the diplomacy interactions being fun and fresh, but there is just too much micro and too little action. You have to move resources from one town to another and back again, and in the meantime there's nothing for you to do. You pretty much end up spending the first 250 turns or so playing an imitation of The Sims. You repeat the same things over and over again, trading the same resources and doing nothing exciting.
And then the King's army always outnumbers yours by a huge amount. I spent one game nursing my empire up and up and up and had over 50 soldiers, dragoons and artillery, together with 8+ warships by the 250 turn. But the King had more than 5 times my forces. What the heck? How do you hope to win such an uneven battle? That's on the easiest difficulty, too (which I've still not managed to win on).
I really hoped to enjoy Civilization IV, since it scored so high ratings all over, but if Colonization is how Civilization IV plays like, I don't think it suits me.

I'm a hypocrite because I suggested that all life is sacred and should not be wasted without good reason.

Was the point that you bought Colonization, and not Civ IV, Banedon? I don't think you'll regret buying Civ IV proper. It's got a great game engine, good graphics, plays really well and the expansions are brilliant. The only drawback I found was the unstable online multiplayer. Works great in hotseat, though, and it's a great single player game.
