H4: Fire ball and fire ring?

Unread postby Metathron » 05 Feb 2006, 22:34

Is there any difference at all between these two level 3 spells?

If not, what's the point in having both?

Well Fire Ring doesn't hurt the creature in the middle. It good when you have 1 creature surounded and you don't want to hurt it with FB.

That aside, I still think the spells are way too similar.

How so? There is a vital difference in killing the attackers around your stack of elves and killing the attackers and the stack of elves. It's all about what spell is the tactically the best in any given situation. Both those two have their use for sure.

Similar yes,but not identical.Because it leaves the middle space dry(so to speak),fire ring has a bigger radius than fireball.

But it is difficult to say which one is better. It depends on situation. In practic both are equal in usefullness.

I would kill the enmy units AND the elves. Those are useless anyways!

Maybe csarmi is an orc and gets perverse pleasure from dragging elves along only to kill them off in macabre ways... :baby:

Fire Ring has more than one size, too. Try casting it on a small little imp or something similar in size. Not very big, is it? But try and cast it on a hydra, and it's much larger. Plus, IIRC, if you have a creature behind castle walls, it can be cast on it. So, if I'm right, Fire Ring has the ability to be cast behind walls in certain situations and Fireball has no chance... At least not on the ground level and the gate not being broken. But even if the gate is broken, you only get certain areas to cast fireball at still.
