"Using" is the right term. My pixie must have gotten killed a hundred times during the course of the game. Good thing they have a resurrection ship in the Pixie fleet.Omega_Destroyer wrote:I forgot about using a pixie.

Gaidal Cain: Hmm...I see...
That explains why I never managed to beat a dragon then...or a Lich.
Been a while since I've played though.
Last time I went through the game, my character was an Elven Archer (Archers hurt...until every other guy is immune to the arrows ).

Tips on how to beat a dragon:
1. Set traps around it before you engage. Once it turns hostile, the traps will trigger.
2. Dragons do magic. Make sure you have a way to dispel its protections, as well as ample protection for yourself (such as resist fear),
3. "Fake Talk" - this old (and famous) strategy involves avoiding the dragon's ever becoming hostile. You simply click the teal circle around it as if you were to talk to it, and then attack. You then click talk and attack alternatively - as long as you are trying to talk to the creature, it won't become hostile. NB! doesn't work with all dragons.

I thought you were talking about the prepatch trap glitch.
1) Have a thief set all of their normal traps near a non-hositle enemy.
2) Go into the character screen and click on dual class.
3) Cancel out of it.
4) You should have a frew new set of traps to lay down.
5) Get enemy to attack you.
I think that's how it was done. You could easily kill Firekragg within seconds.

And the chickens. Those damn chickens.
Well, I found Firkraag to be difficult, but not impossible, by fighting him normally. I used what traps I could lay out, and then kicked his tail. The most important thing was casting the "Remove magic" spell on him to remove his protections, and casting "Resist fear" on my party to avoid his Dragon fear. After that, it was just another fight.
Say, have you tried taking the scales to Cromwell? He can make great Shadow dragon and Red dragon armour. Also, Cespenar can make White and Blue dragon armour...
I'm evil now, so I am going to kill the Silver dragon in the Underdark and take her blood to Fael to make the human skin armour. Maybe I'll get her scales as well...

I've had the game since it first game out, so I've done about everything you can do. I've fought Firekragg numerous times and have managed to take him down normally. But he is nothing compared to the demi-lich you can fight in Amn. If you aren't prepared for him, you are in for a quick defeat.
The crafted armor and weapons are great, especially in Throne of Bhaal. Not much can last against an upgraded Holy Avenger.

they can be nasty, but i find khelbens warding whip, true sight, remove magic, and resist fear to be of great help, not to mention my inquisitors dispel magic
then, pound that dragon down!
same for the liches, though they can be annoying especially when casting imprisonment

I agree - too many of the direct damage spells damage your own party members as well, which blunts their effectiveness. Stat boosting and protective spells (and in ID, summoning spells) are much more effective.Omega_Destroyer wrote:True. I usually found my mages packing mostly counter-spells, such as spell breach and the like. Offensive spells were of secondary importance, except for magic missile maybe. Never can have too many red dots soaring towards your enemy.

Well, sometimes a well-placed fireball will save your day. But clerics are often very good offensive casters, with thath third-level area spell that's alignment dependant.
