Most other mummies were either naked, wearing real clothes (ritual or not), or into shrouds. The first option is... not visually interesting  , the second, could be but it would make it harder to see the difference between zombies and mummies, and would require to define an ancient visual culture prior to make them fit into the game's universe, the third one would make it really hard for them to move without looking like a worm, so I think the bandages are the best. You've probably noticed that bandages are much wider in Heroes than they are on real mummies, that alone makes enough of a difference to say it's inspired by Egyptian mummies but not simply copied (when in fact it's because it's easier to do it that way, but that doesn't matter ;) ).
As for ingame justification, that could be easily explained either by a cult that makes mummies or an ancient civilization. You could also say that those are magical, and what make a mummy. What does the descriptin of the Mummy say anyway?
Of course it could be explained, but it isn't, and doesn't fit the environments excepted for deserts.
I have no problem about telling mummies are magical, but that doesn't explain their Egyptian appearance.
Now for how mummies are described, as I wrote in my first post, a dried out dead person, and that's it. That means you can't directly see the bones, and that you should see the skin. That skin should most likely be tanned, ie turned into leather, so it's dark (that's where the name mummy comes from, "mumia" means wax in Latin).

Wildbear, why don't you sent an article about mummies to bestiary? You seem to know a lot about theme :)
I am back and ready to... ready to... post things.

I voted HOMM5 mummy for his usefulness, not his looks.

The bestiary is complete enough on that point, especially the missing details would only bring confusion among different types of mummies.

Well the clothes one the HoMM ones aren't exactly an exact copy either, they're just close enough.

I meant ingame.

They aren't "just close enough", they aren't culturally neutral, they are direct references to the ancient Egyptian culture.

Neither are toilet-paper mummies. And i'm sure that if you look enough you'd find other civilizations that had similar clothes, even if only for one object each.

Now, I'm happy you're sure about your own baseless hypothesis, but that's hardly an argument, and especially not a good one.

It's as good as your dismissal of the toilet paper without showing other mummies that are TP'd.

I already explained why I think it is better that way, but since you aren't reading you probably missed it.

The bear has made his point clear, even I was able to understand it! (It has a few logical flaws, BTW) Why is it neccessary to continue this boring discusion? Don't you have anything else to do?

Oh yeah, and your reason is that bandages are purely ancient Egyptian objects to you, you even call them bandaid, which as anybody knows is an ancient Egyptian trademark. Now if you don't have any better argument, you should dry your hair.

I'll try to be less subtle next time. By that logic i could say that you belive golden headdresses and staffs are exclusive to ancient Egypt. All right, mummies aren't egyptian unless they have clothes, you convinced me.

Those of that style are. And I never wrote Egyptian mummies had clothes, but that clothes on H5 mummy are stereotypic ancient Egyptian clothes, which do not fit in H5 due to the lack of references to any culture similar to that of ancient Egypt in H5. Looks like I was too subtle too.

And toilet-paper mummies™ are stereotypic ancient Egyptian.

Stereotypic Egyptian mummies aren't wrapped in toilet paper, but into strips and sheets of white linen. Although most famous Egyptian mummies are wrapped into such strips, not all of them are. Some south American mummies were loosely wrapped into rags.

H4 mummies are wrapped into pieces of cloth that are wider than those of the stereotypic Egyptian mummies, and those pieces of cloth aren't tightly constricting the body of the mummy, therefore it can be considered as rags and not Egyptian strips of linen. So what covers the H4 mummy is not an Egyptian stereotype.

And the H3&5's cloathes aren't exact copies of real egyptian stuff either. There's also the little thing about stereotypes not being 100% accurate...

You'll find them in Halloween costume shops. Since you're just disagreeing for your own fun I won't even look for the name of those crowns and scepters from ancient Egypt.
Stereotypes aren't 100% accurate, but they distinguish cultural elements here, again without any reason in-game reference to any similar culture (which is the point, but you're so focused on finding weak arguments that you're constantly digressing).
