The people on horseback are not far, but do to a dense cropping of trees/ect you can only see flashes off of armor and the like. So the two rogues are to sneak up and try to do as much damage as possible before you two close in on them?

Oh and to me (at least) a ninja is something like a Thief/Magicuser/Fighter (in that order). Of course it's not exact but they use stealth, the art of distraction and only fight when no other way can be seen out. They do know martial arts like a monk, but prefer to fight with weapons over with their body. Samurai are sort of specialist Fighters (unusual paladin?) with a little monk thrown in. They also prefer weapons, but do know martial art if things get nasty.

In a straight up 1 to 1 fight the Samurai defeats a Ninja, but Ninja's don't do the straight face to face fight that much. Samurai disdain any range weaponry and prefer heavy armor which they use as efficiantly as most use chain mail. Ninja's do not wear armor of any kind (not even the leather the theif gets) but if using weapons prefer distance weapons, preferrably poisoned.

Now in game terms I mix a little magic in with theives and the result is Ninja. They get spells like invisibilty, minor teleport (but an extra spell componit called a 'smoke bomb' is needed), and at much higher levels time stop (how they walk right past guards and are not noticed). They also get bonuses to poisoning their weapons, and specialize in Katana's.

Again this is just how I see them ;).

Samurai defeats ninjas only because they specialize in katana/wakizashi combo, while ninjas dont specialize in any weapon.Of course, this isnt true for all of them.

Thats not true, samurais used crossbows a lot.

Oh,and ninja being a thief then mage then fighter is weird cause ninjas have tough physical training to make their bodies as hard as possible.I still think it should be a class of its own.

Oh it is a class of it's own. They have low hp, but ac (like a monks) goes up per level, and have all sort of special skills. Still getting all the details down (for myself) to straighten out what. Just dont be expecting them to be doing matrix like moves and killing dozens of people in a minute like the tv ones. Class balance is the key, and the movie ninja is not near balanced to the other classes (and I was never a fan of the movie ninja). As for physical training, a monk or samurai or paladin or even ranger train harder then Ninja's physically. Really do need a specialist warrior and magic user (have specialist in all the other classes ready) so looking for some suggestions though.

Huh?! I'm pretty sure they use dcomposite bows, not crossbows.

Adn a Ninja would work best as a specialized Rogue with some unique feats.

I'm with ya on that TT both about the ninja and the composite bows, I never heard nor saw anything about a samurai with a crossbow

some general quotes:

The samurai bow was long, usually about 8 feet from tip to tip. It took years of practice and strengthening before a samurai could shoot an arrow reasonably well at its longest ranges.

The Samurai became expert in fighting from horseback and on the ground. They practiced armed and un-armed combat. The early Samurai emphasized fighting with the bow and arrow. They used swords for close-in fighting and beheading their enemies.

I was actually trying for a character who could use shurikens well. So, I thought a ninja would be good.

BTW, this ninja idea is from me making up a character, to be prepared, in case my druid has an unfortunate event happen to him. One of the three possible characters, even.

Which brings this comment to this: If you haven't already done so, you might want to start thinking about doing the same. Never know when you're going to die.

Way ahead of you William. I'll just use my original Paladin build.

@DL
I hadn't thought of it before, but your character reminds me a lot of a character from Shaman King named Faust VIII. He's a necromancer/doctor who lugs around his dead wife.

Faust VIII

how droll!

as for an alternate build, I have a very handy rogue that doesn't plan on dying, but if he does I'd be tempted to go a Kensai maybe or some kind of specialised fighter

Need a little more specific information then just "a diversion". A diversion could be anything from Stefan streaking the guards to trying to cause a metorite to hit them...so a little more info is needed before we commence.

I'm a bit late on the suggestion. Strange what ideas you have at 2:31 am.

Can other people here your ghost DL? Cause if so, we could use her to draw out the fighters. Just have her go within ear shot of the encampment and I'll send a boar to "rush" her. When she starts screaming, some of the soldiers might break off to investigate. When they get near the boar, cast Darkness. Then send one of the rogues and Kero to get the girl. Once they get her, the druid could cast entangle to help cover our escape.
And the chickens. Those damn chickens.
