MM7: most useful Misc. Skill

Unread postby CoffeeGnome » 24 Oct 2007, 19:29

Hello everyone,

This is a poll to see what is the most useful non-weapon, non-magical skill that one can have within their party.

Alchemy, by far.

It can emulate the majority of self spells, there are elemental protection spells, weapon imbuing spells, stat boosting potions...

Disarm Traps can be replaced by Telekinesis, Identify Item by a scholar, Merchant is useless if you have enough money and /or a merchant NPC...

Sorry, forgot Alchemy

Unread postby CoffeeGnome » 24 Oct 2007, 20:38

You're right, I forgot about alchemy. I just wish you could use more than one black potion to increase the same stat even higher.

I'm not sure. I'm torn between learning and merchant.
"Yes, but what about David Beckham and the magic mushroom?"

I'm baaaaaack!

Meditation is good, and useful. Get out a few extra spells.

I'm sorry repair must not have taken. I put it as the last on the list (unlike alchemy which I actually forgot,) However it must not have added. Still you have to admit that alchemy and its "harden item" potions eliminates much of the need for the repair item skill.

Disarm trap for me, that's what you are doing a lot and you get pretty good items and cash from them...

Other MM7 Miscellaneous Skills not on the list:

Repair
Armsmaster
Stealing
Alchemy

I suppose I'd have to go with Learning too. More experience means more Levels, which means more Hit Points, Spell Points and Skill Points.

Armsmaster is more of a combat skill and can be safely excluded, but that's now 3 Misc. skills not on the list: alchemy, stealing, repair.
CoffeeGnome, that was a poor excuse of a poll you did.

That gives us an idea of how thorough you must be when testing MM7 data. NOT. Please don't even try arguing with me again about MM7 since you're probably too slow to follow what I'm saying and you're really just embarrassing yourself.

Armsmaster is still listed under the Miscellaneous Skills category in the official MM7 Manual. But I think the problem with this poll was that the poll wouldn't allow as many options that Coffee wanted to list. So give him a break, UHO. :hoo:

Learning gets my vote, since Harden Item potions will make Repair a bit less useful.

Good point. Harden Item Potions (Green + Yellow) are pretty easy to make too. I think you only need to be an Expert in Alchemy. Unfortunately, Artifacts, Relics or Named Items can't be hardened unless you use an editor.

Sorry the only time I have to even go to this forum is on my breaks at work. At home I never get the computer away from my wife or daughters. So I had 15-minutes to write down what I was curious about. I would edit and correct the poll to add armaster, stealing, alchemy, and repair item, if there was a way to do so. I did however place repair item when I made the actual poll and I do not know why it did not take like the other items. If people are so upset, why don't they just write their own poll making the proper edits, I'll still end up voting for disarm trap.

The reason I got upset had nothing to do with this poll, so my comment was out of place.

The reason I was upset is
viewtopic.php?t=7459

... no matter how many hours or work I put into testing, someone will always turn up and says "you're wrong" without any cold data to support what they're saying.

Learning - example from MM9 - my Gladiator (learning 1) has near 70 level at the end of game and my Lich (learning 10 GM) has over 130 level.
And I don't have to mention how many skill points this level difference was worth? Skill points which you can invest on another skills.
