Some types of monsters have a preference to hit a specific class, race or gender .
examples from vanilla :
Archers prefer hitting archer or rangers
Elf warriors prefer hitting Humans
Dwarves want to hit goblins .
What race/gender is your wanderer and in which position are they (1st, 2nd, 3rd , 4th) ?

Re: MM7Rev4mod A Radical Redone
If the issue is the wanderer class itself, promoting it will disable the preference -- this is possibly a bug. Overall I never liked the vanilla preference mechanic because it causes the affected PC to receive 100% of hits until it faints, which can be extremely frustrating and actually makes the default party very bad against goblins (gang up on the cleric) or titans (target the casters first).
Just in case, I believe 234 in the Pref column are not PC positions but a multi-attack flag (i.e. the monster can hit 2-4 PCs at once).
Re: MM7Rev4mod A Radical Redone
He is a male elf in position number 2. It seems to that everyone wants to hit him for example in emerald island he was always the first to be knocked out despite having the highest AC.Lone_Wolf wrote: ↑15 Nov 2024, 17:22 Some types of monsters have a preference to hit a specific class, race or gender .

Same in Harmondale with the goblins, it's odd how he gets so damaged while everyone else is ok.
Re: MM7Rev4mod A Radical Redone
Yes I notice that too. It could be GrayFace patch 2.5.7 or it was intended that way by Big Daddy Jim or Meastro.Coldy wrote: ↑15 Nov 2024, 22:26He is a male elf in position number 2. Re: MM7Rev4mod A Radical Redone
I encountered the same with a goblin male ranger in first position in MM7RedoneUltimate .
Maybe someone is willing to test with other party setups like a 4 ranger party (all male , all female, 2 male and 2 female) and a party without any rangers ?

Re: MM7Rev4mod A Radical Redone
Yeah I think it's a bug with the wanderer. I'm in Tatalia and he gets knocked out instantly. It's like playing a man down all the time.
I will restart with a new party and see if there are any issues with other new classes.

Re: MM7Rev4mod A Radical Redone
It's pretty hilarious if BDJ made every monster target rangers first. Like, "it's already the worst class in MM7, but could we make it even worse?"
Re: MM7Rev4mod A Radical Redone
I started a new party and replaced the ranger/wanderer with an archer (elf, 2nd position) and it's all fine now. The party takes proportional damage and there's nothing that stands out. Archer's fine event with low AC.
The wandered is bugged/cursed and the game hates him/her

Re: MM7Rev4mod A Radical Redone
My ranger in ultimateredone got promoted to hunter, and this did result in a shift .
Instead of being hit more then 9 out of 10 attacks, he now got hit "only" 75 out of 100 times.
Switching to a party with same race & gender but knight, thief , cleric , sorcerer showed a damage bias like 4: 3: 1: 2 fighting dragonflies.
The default party goblin male knight, human male thief, dwarven female cleric, elf female sorcerer against dragonflies had the human male thief be the last one standing with almost no damage 3 times in a row.
It does appear there's a targeting bias related to class and race. Deeper analysis would need to be statistical and need a lot of data .
Unless someone knows a way to simulate battles and gather raw results automatically I'm stopping here.
ultimateredone & radicalredone share a lot of things, hard to tell where this originates.
Tomsod, have you tested ranger class in your elemental mod ?

Re: MM7Rev4mod A Radical Redone
If you want to know precisely, all the monster preferences should be in monsters.txt, "Pref" column. X = male, O = female, W = dwarf, the rest are initials.
In my mod preferences are not 100%, e.g. goblins only attack the dwarf PC 50% of the time. Otherwise it's the same as in vanilla.

Re: MM7Rev4mod A Radical Redone
I looked at monsters.txt with TxtEdit and there doesn't appear to be any O in that column, but there are a lot of zeros .
Checking a monsters.txt I extracted in 2013 from a MM7 cd-install shows the same thing .

The number before Poison3x2 should be Pref , and does show as 0x030 in hex which does match with 0 .
What do you expect to be the result of having 0 in pref ?

Re: MM7Rev4mod A Radical Redone
Oh, zero just means no preference. And other numbers mean the monster attacks that much PCs at once (dunno why it's not a separate column).
In vanilla titans have O and vampires have OC (female or cleric).

Re: MM7Rev4mod A Radical Redone
Checked, and in these 2 mods Titans and vampires have the same pref as in vanilla .
My conclusion for now is that "No Preferences" actually means : hit rangers first.

Maybe BDJ/Maestro liked easter eggs ?
