Marksmen without hesitation. At the start of a scenario, shooters open up the map and clear through neutrals. If your shooters are taking serious damage early in the scenario, you're probably not playing properly (use Slow or hide them in a corner if they're in danger). So the durability of Chiefs d...

Ellshar, because he's the only one whose special is actually useful. Pegasi special isn't all that handy (because creature specialties, in general, suck unless the +1 speed helps your movement) and the spell specialties are all lame. Starting with Curse isn't all that handy (because you probably won...

I like Magog the best...but they're all kinda ugly. And not the good kind of "I'm a lean killing machine" ugly.

Mantis is much cooler. The Flies are great in battle, but aren't exciting looks-wise.

The Diamond Dragon, mostly by a process of elimination:
->I hate the standing-up dragons of H5
->The Dragon Golem is a cool idea, but just looks kinda lame
->And the Crystal Dragon looks really fragile and wimpy

Loynis. Castle has nice odds to get Expert Water and Mass Prayer is just too awesome. Especially since high level Mage Guilds are always the very last thing on the list, so I might not get level 4 spells for a month (and they could very easily be something less useful).

Voted Lord Haart, because he's extremely handy as a secondary Hero. Sir Mullich is clearly the most powerful among these, but the +2 speed is way too cheap for my tastes. Sylvia could be game-breaking on a map that's mostly water though. It's a shame that most maps only include water as a small addi...

I voted Styg...but to be honest, they're all pretty lame. I would've picked Mirlanda as no Sorcery gives you one more free slot to maybe perhaps get something worthwhile, but I rarely find Weakness a worthwhile spell to cast. The first turn I'd much rather do a Mass Haste (or Bless) and after that, ...

Re: Heroes 3: List your buying priorities (units)

So, it's important only for Inferno, Conflux, Castle and Tower which units you buy first. In rest of towns you can buy all of units. You're assuming that he's only got one town and thus can fully devote his entire 28k resources to it. How often does THAT happen? It's far more common to have 2-3 tow...

Voted Centaurs. Solid stats and enough speed to actually be tactically useful in battle. Sprites' no retaliation and Master Gremlin's shooting are both slick and handy early on, but once you're past the first couple weeks, they get slaughtered.

If you already know people who have the game, doing it directly via TCP/IP is the easiest IMO. Basically just have one person choose to host and give out his IP, then everybody else joins using the IP. Quick and painless, though you probably need to open up some ports if you have a firewall. If you ...

Alamar. Resurrection+Scholar=awesome. Hit up a couple Learning Stones and you can pass around one of the top spells in the game quickly and easily. That said, I wouldn't think twice about hiring any of them except Jaegar and Geon.

Gunnar. Tactics, Logistics, Logistics Specialty.

That said, pretty much everybody here is worth considering as everybody (save, perhaps Lorelei) has at least some redeeming quality and Dungeon heroes often start with a nice complement of troops to repay your initial gold cost.

Conflux on Impossible (H3)

I was wondering what kind of strategies are used for Conflux on Hard/Impossible difficulty. I've been having trouble figuring out the most efficient and best overall way to play Conflux, simply because unlike other towns (which I play pretty decently with, winning about a quarter of games against Im...

Fafner, for having the best special for a main hero. None of them is particularly great with other skills, but Scholar is at least better than Mysticism.

Rissa's free Mercury is fantastic for a backup Hero though, as she basically pays for herself in a week or less.
