Heroes 3: Favorite Overlord

Unread postby UndeadHalfOrc » 29 Jun 2008, 00:47

Apart from Synca and Lorelei, they're all pretty solid, in my opinion...

Still I'll go for Gunnar. Tactics AND Logistics on a starting hero? Just too good of a combo.

Damacon, all the way, if I can ensure him logistic.

Agree with the HalfOrc: A Logistics specialist starting with Tactics? WOW! However, on impossible Damacon and Shakti ensure a better start. If Shakti comes with 3 stacks of Trogs you start with over 100 of them - start on their native turf and with a specialist in them and Tactics - and you have the most powerful hero right away.
Which makes Dace and Ajit second rate heroes, really, which speaks volumes.
In the END Shakti AND Damacon lose out against Gunnar. However, from the TOWN side of it, it's better to combine a Warlock with an Overlord and here the possibilities are endless - Dungeon IS the most versatile town in the game.

So this is another case where BEST hero depends on situation. My favorite hero is Gunnar. He looks like one winner of a Minotaur is there ever was one.

They're almost all good, but voted Arlach. I like his Ballista specialty, he can reach very impressive damage levels with it, but the AI rarely seems to target it.

Well, apart from Gunnar, there is no really outstanding speciality; most of it is creature specialities or standard gold or ballista. But the starting skills are awesome. Shakti is probably the only level 1 specialist worth taking: Troggies are not outstanding in any way, but the sheer volume he can bring is enough to handle mostly anything.

Had not Lorelei started with scouting, she'd been an interesting choice as well: 10-20 Harpy Hags is a very effective force early on.

I think I'll vote for Dace just since he seems like he could be abit undervalued: he boosts one of the more important units for dungeon, and comes with great starting skills.

Yea definitely Gunnar and he has been so from the start, though Dace is a favorite as well - Minotaurs are probably my favorite unit in the game (but picking Gunnar honors that sufficiently).
Shakti and Damacon are superb too. Ajit is interesting, though I don't think Leadership is all that great.
Lorelei is a decent scout but Deemer is better. Arlach is sub-par but Synca is the worst, icky skillset and her Scorpicores are still too fragile to assume a more active role in battle.

Gunnar is stupidly good. Not much of a choice hero, eh?
Although like JJ, I'd pick someone else on impo unless the map is abundant with resources.

As Gunnar would be too an obvious choice, I made kind of a surprise choice and voted Dace. Minotaur specialist who starts with two good secondary skills, tactics and offense? Sure, any time! Not a bad combination at all.

One last word: I feel so sorry for poor Pasiphae for her curse...

Gunnar. Tactics, Logistics, Logistics Specialty.

That said, pretty much everybody here is worth considering as everybody (save, perhaps Lorelei) has at least some redeeming quality and Dungeon heroes often start with a nice complement of troops to repay your initial gold cost.

Damacon and Lorelei are great too. With the Swoop ability, Harpie Hags take advantage of the +1 speed more than most. The extra Att and Def are also great for keeping their skills on par with the high levels in a big battle, with the Hags really is 1 of the better specials in the game.

But still, Logistics is the best skill in the game. But there's a world of difference between the best and the amateurs. It lets you close up on enemies, kill twice as many of them in the same time, visit more magic wells, run for your life, walk into an empty castle before the AI even know he needs to defend it, and win the game faster in general.
So Gunnar is like, the best hero in the game. At high levels he's got such a huge ground speed I need to crackle into insane laughter sometimes.
