I get thrashed in every single one of the scenarios. In fact, "Island of my own" is the only one where I sometimes achieve something, although I have never come close to winning. In the Campaign, you are led to or at least given a choice to attack armies that you have a chance of beating. ...

New Forum Colour

I don't come here every day, so I don't know when you changed the colours, but please change it again. Maybe that dark red looks different in Windows, but on my Mac it's so dark, I can barely read the black print.

Thank you for replying. Firstly, mine is a Mac game. As far as I know, there are no patches. From the Celestial Heavens walkthru, I understood about the attack on my town, but that is not what happens. As soon as Biara defeats my garrison - once Biara attacked early and my garrison won, but took hea...

Does anyone read this thread? Is there anyone else who has the Mac verions of HOMM5? I am really stuck on The Ranger, The Refugees. Contrary to Celestial Heaven's walkthru, my garrisons cannot withstand any attack - well, one did once, but the remaining Treants went down on the next atttack. I've go...

Unfortunately, no-one seems prepared to port WoW to Macintosh. I am not prepared to start a war over the Mac/PC issue.

Atlantic Empires

I think I did say early on that I had made a mistake: nothing wrong with Arctic Empires, but I've just this minute had the game hang again with Atlantic. No backtracking to previously save games seems to avoid this. I've played it several times starting with England, but every time I start in Spain,...

Atlantic Empires

Playing Green, I was enjoying myself, when suddenly the game just hung on Blue's turn. I tried loading This Turn and then Last Turn and doing something different, but it just kept on happening. Could there be a bug? The most common one that causes this is when two creature producers at the same leve...

I find all of the above quite fascinating, and I am now beginning to see why you stress Pathfinding (an ability I had mainly dismissed in the past). For me, archery was useful when in difficult terrain, where it would take my hero several rounds to reach the enemy while they were picking me off with...

Wimfrits said: "This also is a difficulty setting thing as tactics is. Archery will work fine on lower settings. On higher settings it becomes pretty much useless as a difficult combat will easily last 80 rounds, compared to which the 12 rounds of archer shots make little difference." I am...

To Wimfrits: perhaps I am misunderstanding the effects of Tactics, but my impression is that it gives a boost to speed, not just to overland travel, but also in combat. Having said that, if I am given a hero with only Tactics, I always try to gain and develop Combat as soon as possible - I am addict...

Thanks for the tips; I hope there will be more. I am sure we all agree about the AI - I used to love it in H3 when the computer player cast Blind on one of my stacks then promptly attacked it and removed the spell, or the way in H4 that it will send shooters who have been causing heavy damage into a...

When the heroes are too strong there are another ways to make the map intersting. I found this statement interesting as it pinpoints a difficulty I had partly with "Gemma's Fortune" and even more so with my latest campaign. So far, the only solution I've found (and which I have not applie...

H4 Standard - New Campaign

With the help of Milla The Slayer and a lot of help from Koni, I now have a new H4 campaign ready. This one is rather harder than "Gemma". The story involves a Life Knight who believes magic is either evil or a religious con, and he attempts to solve the "world's" problems by usi...

What are "water stones"? I do use water lilies or rocks sometimes to block spaces, but my main problem is ships appearing in places which a hero cannot possibly reach.

Nevertheless, all this is begging the question. What I would like to know (and we do have a number of real experts who hang about this forum) is exactly how the shipyard decides where it can place ships, ie although there must be a random element, I assume there is a grid pattern within which it may...

Sometimes, I have been reduced to creating islands connected by a bridge, just so a hero can access a ship that would otherwise be produced at the far side of a river.

H4 ships

Is there any way of guessing where a shipyard will place ships? I've just spent a couple of hours on a new map testing each and every shipyard, moving objects and widening rivers so that ships produced will be accessible. Free standing shipyards aren't too bad, but those in towns are ridiculous, fre...

Not sure what you mean by "original". With my H4 editor, the underground always comes up as "dry grass". Perhaps in other versions it comes up as "cave", so you could try erasing cave.

I know that in H4 any attempts I've made at bombing towns or mines have been unsuccessful. As far as I can see, you can only bomb "landscape" objects.
