Jon Van Caneghem and Trip Hawkins are two very important figures in the history of the Might and Magic franchise, the former being the creator, the latter being... well, he wasn't quite destroyer but he came close as the founder and CEO of 3DO. There's been a recent Round Table discussion about what John's been doing recently but no one's quite sure.

It's a bit clearer what Trip's up to now thanks to an interesting profile in the most recent Escapist Magazine. He doesn't say much about his time at 3DO in the interview:

"For me, and this will be the last thing I say about 3DO because it's kind of a waste of our time, there were elements of failure from 3DO that were very humbling, that were extremely valuable lessons to learn."

He's currently running a company called Digital Chocoloate which aims to make casual, social games for mobile phones which is a bit different from his previous ventures. His ego still seems to be the same, though:
"Basically, I realized that there was a formula that needed to be followed, almost like a recipe, in order to assure long term business success. And it's very complicated. And I've started codifying this formula

And after I had it up to about a dozen critical rules, I realized, wow this is actually a really valuable trade secret. So I started documenting it, but I didn't tell anybody. And I basically told the board of directors and I told the management team, 'Look this is going to turn out to be a valuable trade secret. I'm gonna talk freely about some of the things we have to do as a business, but I'm not going to give anyone a copy of the rule book, the recipe."

Anyway, the whole thing is worth a read.
