Heroes 3: Favorite Witch

Unread postby UndeadHalfOrc » 16 Jun 2008, 14:45

The three Gnoll witches are clearly the worst here...

it's between Andra and Styg. But I'll vote for Styg because Witches need all the power they can get.

Not the best but I like Verdish and the first aid specialty. Else Merist with stone skin but a pity she comes with learning skill.

Tiva and Verdish are out immediately.
For Merist it's really too bad about the Learning, the Stone Skin special is awesome for Fortress. I usually cast it anyway.
I rarely use offensive spells with Fortress, so Styg is out. Rosic and Andra are pretty much interchangable, both very useful on large maps. Vey is also very good (if applicaple but let's not state the obvious) and starts with Slow.
Mirlanda, I don't know if it affects the DF's special, but she's a decent alternative to Merist. Water Magic seems fairly easy to get for Witches. She's likely to get screwed over with her skills though.

Rosic gets my vote, I like her sense of fashion.

Going with Mirlanda. She looks a bit south from sanity - which I find rather fitting for a Witch - and when I start with a Witch I like to say what Yurian said for the Barbarian. In this case I have at least a chance to develop a fine hero, albeit the Eagle Eye/Mysticism decision is a distinct possibility. Still, the Weakness special is great as well.

I like intelligence specialists, so Andra gets my vote. Furthermore, guaranteed dispel is a good thing. Nothing sucks more than losing a game because you're not having the spell. On the downside, it is of no use at the early expansion.

Voted Mirlanda.

She is the kind of a Witch who looks like she's been living in a small hut near the swamps all her life and as a consequence, is more than halfway over the cuckoo's nest. My kind of a girl. Independent, lunatic and passionate.

Weakness as a specialty fits nicely with the general Fortress theme which is to disrupt enemy maneuvers and thus inflict them additional losses. Since Witches have a good chance to aqcuire water magic, Mirlanda's specialty becomes even more effective and important. This is better manifested in bigger battles where the weakness spell can spare your units from additional damage.

Starting with one secondary skill only can be seen as a disadvantage but in my opinion it works fine with the semi-random skill system of H3. This suites to my playing style so I have nothing to complain.

And did I mention I prefer women with green eyes?

Oh dear.... I think I never played as Witch except for Adrienne...
Maybe Andra if I have to choose... :)

And all this after debates over the "one starting skill issue" :D

Like in cause of beastmasters, I choose random hero - but voted Andra, mostly for her picture.

Andra, Styg or Verdish, mostly Andra because of intelligence

I voted Styg...but to be honest, they're all pretty lame.

I would've picked Mirlanda as no Sorcery gives you one more free slot to maybe perhaps get something worthwhile, but I rarely find Weakness a worthwhile spell to cast. The first turn I'd much rather do a Mass Haste (or Bless) and after that, my Dragon Flies are casting Weakness themselves, so it's not really worth it.
Go Buckeyes, Indians, Cavs and Browns!

Really? How often do you use a navigation specialist in a regular competitive game? :P

To get the most out of a Sorcery Specialist, you need to know your game will last long enough to get good spells (or you're better off with a guy that starts with a good spell and and get a bonus from it) and develop your sorcery and level (cos sorcery's base is only 15% whereas intelligence's base bonus is 100%) which is not what the fortress is good at what with their Mage Guild limits, so I wouldn't go with fortress if I wanted to play a "sorcerer".

But if I am playing another town and just after a good "sorcerer" then yes, Styg is good because witches have great stats (primary skills).

Witch already actually get quite good power 2nd behind Warlocks (and Elementalists, who getseverything, including 1 extra point) and before Wizards, and also joint 2nd in knowledge with warlocks, behind wizards.)

Weakness is a tinsy bit weaker than stoneskin and starting with learning is a tinsy bit better than starting with advanced wisdom so I'll go Merist I guess.
