Your "favorite" 3rd lvl creature (H3)
This round its time for bringing forth the 3rd lvl creatures
I didnt include the neutrals from AB since I dont remember which of them besides the dragons and the gold/diamond golems that are 3rd level units.
So I included a "Other" option poll below.
My favorite creature this time around gotta be the Wood/Grand Elves, not surprisingly one of the best low level shooters out there and they look cool too

* This is completely obvious - The Iron Golems win it through theirs magic resistance, thing which come to you so handy when fighting Mages&Faerie Dragons. That's reason why I always stretch for them and place them into my armies.
Pretty looks like this is another kinda of RT gimmick questions. By the way wasn't that specialization of our Lordship_Oliver?

With "favorite" Im including the look, the style and the creatures usfulness (you think its best because etc....)
My second choice goes to the serpent/dragon flies, I seriously hate to encounter those things, but I love when I have them too. They always snap at my ranged troops, they have the painful dispel ability which remove the protective buffs my archers have making them even more vurnerable to the flies following attacks and other enemy troops and they can cross a great distance fast. Especially with Terek as Hero (haste and tactics) they are even more irritating to get rid of.

Lot of good creatures.
I voted royal griffons. Available in great numbers and multi-retaliation is a big plus along with their great speed which often ensures first strike. They are also "large" which makes them good for protecting ranged units. They are easily killed, sure, but their large numbers makes up for it.
I also agree that serpent flies and grand elves are close seconds. Never liked the golems much I have to be honest. Too slow except for castle defense... but they do have their uses.

The Elves, the Elves, send in the Elves.
I really love the buggers. Royal Griphons look cool also, but I really like ranged creatures, and double shoot rules.

Definitely the elves, especially the grand elves with their two shots and nice crisp appearance. LvL3 creatures always were rather odd, because they always appeared surprisingly weak in battle, especially when you controlled them. They're not lvl 1's or 2's, so I don't tend to think of them as strictly 'meat shield,' and yet they lack the soldidity of lvl4's. They're hard to place generally.
Happy Millenium!

Its funny. To me, this is one of the levels of troops that to me have no inbetween.
Cerebrus, 3 pronged attack/no retaliation, Evil Eyes with great ranged potential and NO melee penalty, and Grand Elves are just awesome.
Then...there's the rest. Dragon Flies have have speed, yes, but late game they're just useless. Even middle game they'll give you first strike but they may just DIE in that first strike.
Wights...c'mon. Orcs? Compared to Grand Elves, nothing. Ice Elementals? Eh...ok, maybe they are the inbetween. Golems are durable, but, by the time they reach me, my archers have ripped them in shreds. Or, archers are running around the battlefield avoiding the golems and whittling them down.

Gunnar>all.
Odd. When I play Stronghold it's a flat-out race for Thunderbirds, with which I destroy neutrals. Orcs never come into the equation.Bandobras Took wrote:Voted Orc/Orc Chieftain
You asked for my favorite, not for the best.
But seriously, they're a very cheap unit and give the Stronghold what it needs -- a ranged attacker in the early game.

I'd vote elves but I don't agree with everyone about the dragon flies.
I use these as single stack hero companions for my fortress troops and have enabled a lot of long distance daisy chain trading to load troops and materials in my supply line. They allow the swamp walkers army to be used very efficiently.
I rarely use them in battles with Neutrals since they are targeted by the AI first (even above ranged units), but I do use them in key battles. The reason the AI and other players will attack them is only obvious if you horde them. In a big stack this fast little flyer is absolutely devastating. Try it sometime.

If I were a flower, I'd be a really big flame-throwing flower with five heads.
