Because they get free resources anyway.

It's OK, but there are a few things missing- like not trying to go around a creature in order to be able to reach a stack of shooters the next turn.

I know this is a silly reason, but the expansion just jumped up on the charts do to 1 single thing. No dragons in new race. Yay! Now they could have been a little more imaginative, but I will take the cyclops anyday over "Another dragon type" . All I have to say is ... yay!

Since I brought up the whole chess-comparison subject, and it ended up in a discussion about computer processors, I think it is no shame to ask the same question again.
Geez, have you any idea on how hard is to make a HoMM AI? Even if you're not a programmer (I am),
No. I do not have the most vague idea. My professional area is medical, most precisely, infectiology, and therefore it would be much easier to discuss smallpox than programming. Thats why I am asking and not affirming anything, since we came to the subject.

Once and again, gigaflops, depht ply, etc. sound to me much more like creature names from HOMM than anything else (better names than the new elven upgrades anyway). So please try to keep it simple if you really want this poor vampire to understand.

And I thought I was clear enough about that ..
You explained very well, Mist, but the main point is still obscure. Is the BATTLE programming in Heroes much more difficult (or different) than advanced chess programming?

Or is it just a marketing decision to make AI weak (designed to surrender gracefully)?

Yes, it is more difficult. In chess - if you are lazy or not good enough - you can rely on computer' calculating power. In HoMM - you cant.

And global map AI is *much* more difficult because you need to use absolutly diffrent approach.

As for "designed to surrender gracefully" - I dont think this was put in Battle AI, that would be even more stupid thing to do.
So I think its only in global map (adventure) AI.

And if you still have doubts - Nival said that doing AI was such hard task, that even while doing AI that should surrender, they had to make it cheat in many ways. (I know just about 2)
