...I used to read in general and learn some things about the subject but I soon learned that when you memorize some specifics with high probability to appear it pays off better

As a result I barely read some things once and focus on a few things.
Of course it depends on the subject. Some parts may be too pointless - to even glance at them is a waste of time.
I, for one, am dying to find out what colour they paint Michael's toenails.
