In my case, one has to learn it in the first place in order to remember it. The only thing I remember from that class was how easy it was to take a nap.Gaidal Cain wrote:Well, if you're "forced" to tap into it every once and awhile, it does a remarkable job of staying.

The differential, or whatever its name is in English, can be a very useful method of sneakyness. And actually I'm a dragon, not a devil.
That was the catch: it said dy in the fine print!
Daemian, I hereby declare you the Ev... I mean Keen Eyed Differential Spotter!

Alright, just for that, you'll have to endure a Bad Math Joke (I could ask a certian someone to post a certain something, but then I'd have to read it again myself, and my eyes haven't stopped burning since last time):theLuckyDragon wrote:The differential, or whatever its name is in English, can be a very useful method of sneakyness. e and e^x are out walking in Hilbert Space. They then see a differential operator approaching, and e gets scared:
"I don't want to be turned into a zero"
"Don't worry, i'll go talk to him. He can't touch me- I'm e^x". So e^x walks over to the operator, who greets him with
"Hi. I'm d/dy"
Hey, I told you it was bad

My teacher told us an e^x story when we first learned derivatives.
"Once upon a time, Prince Charming was fighting the Evil Ogre in derivatives. The Ogre derivated Charming, but didn't hurt him. Charming derivated the Ogre and reduced his power by 1..." [repeat twice more] "... so after the third derivative the Ogre was vanquished and yet Charming remained unscathed. Who were they?"
On a less mathematical note, to atoms bump into each other on the street. "Are you OK?" asks one. "No, I've lost and electron" came the reply. "Are you sure?" "Yes, I'm positive!"

Inflict pain on the world? What did we ever do?Gaidal Cain wrote:That's easy: a mathematician. Who else would be sadistic enough to inflict such pain upon the world? Well, apart from chemists, of course
Besides isolating plutonium, of course.
