Currently fighting as Tau in the Eldar HQ which is the first HQ I'm assaulting. Seems to be easier then I thought since I can entrench myself quite a bit. Severeal layers of enemies though. Orks, Chaos and finally Eldar. And to top it all of, the objectives gets updated every 2min :s
What Tau research building do you build btw? Montka or Kayun? I tend to go for Montka since it gives you the Hammerhad ship which outranges turrets and are fast. Strange though that I don't get the extra Fire Warrior upgrades if I don't build the Kayun since Kayun gives Kroot stuff.
Tempting to try out Necrons soon. What can possibly be better then ravaing a planet with a 10.000 hitpoint monolith??

I usually go for the Kayun command due to the 2 extra upgrades you get for your Fire Warriors. I find the extra range to be a huge advantage. Plus the Krootox are just a pain for the enemy. One of my common strategies involved building 3 or 4 Kroot command buildings and constantly que Krootox to keep the enemy busy in melee while my Fire Warriors mowed down everybody.
When you face the Necron, the Montka might be a good way to go because of the Assault Suits you get. The flamer weapons are very effective for killing off the necrons.
The Necrons are fun to play, but I find a lot of the time it just depends on how quickly you can get your Monolith upgraded. Also the Necron Lord's teleportation ability is very useful when you use the Flayed Ones deep strike. Even better, sending Flayed ones off to die in an assault, creating new ones for deep strikes, and sending your Necron Lord in with a Resurrection Orb is a very effective strategy.

Yeah those two upgrades are nice, but enemies close pretty quickly anyway plus you need Pathfinders to be ahead of your Fire Warrior force to make use of that range. And microing the pathfinders so they don't die can be troublesome. Prevents from fighting on multiple fronts effectively. And those XV88 battlesuits which can be upgraded with either flamer or missiles are good.
Krotox units you get are useful but compared to the Hammerhead gunship it's an easy choice since you get 4 of them.
The Hammerhead gunships are the equivalent to the Eldar Fireprism and Space Marines Land Raider. I think it got the firepower of the Baneblade but 1/4 the hitpoints.
But I like to use pathfinders (I seriously wonder when people will realize that they are KEY to winning with Tau. FW and PF = win) so I'll try it out next game.
....Gonna miss those Hammerhead ships though
Is there a way to make units follow other units or a stance where they run away from enemies? Pathfinders need that. Running out of hotkeys :p

I do not think there is a way to order units to fall back. It would be nice.
I disagree about pathfinders being the key to victory. I rarely employed them and did just fine. Just have to make sure that your commander is upgraded with detection capabilities. The distance thing never really proved to be a big problem for me. I just used my commander to scout ahead, throw down some snares as needed, and bring in my main force. Also don't forget about the stealth teams as regular scouts. Plus their pulse weapons just rip apart enemy vehicles.
To deal with melee, I advise using the regular carnivore units and have them canibalize. When your team has +300 hit points for each unit, they become surprisingly durable. The leap ability is also quite nice.

Yeah I've had success without pathfinders too but inflicting 75% more damage is too good to pass up. The balance testers of Relic said that in a VOD of a replay (the one I linked to).
And I meant in skirmish. Those markerlights will make a target of your choice very vulnerable. In campaign there's not the pressure and limitations that you get in a competetive match so you don't see the great advantage of certain tactics and feats since you got max amount of units and endless resources all the time.

I'm still on my Tau campaign battling the forces of Chaos in their main province. I wonder what awaits at the end....probably squads of Obliterators, some Defilers and Chaos Predators, a Bloodthirster, Demons and Eliphas the Inheritor in his demon form.
Think I'm gonna try the Imperial Guard next. Seems fun. Love the Baneblade
Anyone else found it extremely tedius to take out the Necrons?

As of now, I've completed the Tau and Imperial Guard campaigns. I noticed I always ended up fighting the Eldar last, so I decided for a change of pace, that I'd play as them this time. A bit ironic seeing as the Eldar are easily my least favorite race in the game.
As far as the Necrons are concerned, I didn't find them overly tedious once I got the knack of playing as the Tau. I find snares help a lot to halt their advance. Also, make sure to employ carnivores and hounds to help disrupt their infantry. The only thing you really have to fear playing against the Necrons is an active Monolith and even then a few Krootox can really tear it to shreds.

Eldar just got crushed under my robotic boot. Chaos is last. I admire Farseer Taldeer for sticking around. Hope the Inheritor does the same.

Just so you guys know: Krootox and Necrons are overpowered and will be nerfed in the second patch :p
Krootoxex are just completely insane for their cost. Good damage and insane hitpoints (17000!!!) for what? 175/275..?
Necrons are not that bad, but two units being able to ressurect everything that died in an area is really too powerful and needs some limitations.
And in all the competetive replays I've watched so far the heaviest unit to see battle was Immortals. Never seen a Destroyer or Heavy Destroyer. (Not to mention an active monolith and the Nightbringer!)

Warriors and Immortals are pretty much all you need. Especialy since they move at the same pace. Nothing more annoying then ordering an attack and having your destroyers get there too fast and die.Campaigner wrote: And in all the competetive replays I've watched so far the heaviest unit to see battle was Immortals. And done. So, anyone care to swap savegames?! I'm really not very eager to finish the entire campaign again.

Sorry, i was Necron.
But what i'd like to know is the deal with the Blood Ravens relics and their Unknown Primarch. Could they be one of the two deleted from the records original chapters?!

I find playing as the Necrons almost too easy. The only problem I've encountered playing them is taking the Eldar Stronghold. And that isn't anything I can overcome with patience and surgical strikes.
Haven't played very long as the Blood Ravens, which is odd considering they are one of my favorite races, so I don't know what secrets lie on Kronus for them. But going through the Imperial Guard campaign will offer some insight as to the lost history of the Blood Ravens once you take their strong hold.
