Aussie Rules Football

Unread postby asandir » 20 Oct 2006, 03:08

Sure we have the american one, but this is for the best football game :D

it's a fast, skillful, and sometimes crazy game, and they don't wear any kind of protective gear (here's looking at the NFL!!!)

something to whet the appetite

What I like is the guys that don't really play, but run out on the field telling others guys what to do. Now even I could be a professional athlete.

(Speaking of which, how's my old pal Jacko?)

I don't like neither rugby and american football - they are just utterly barbaric and very often seriously injure sportsmen - and the audience seems to like that. 8| Where's the fun with full force run into your opponent and knock him down unconscious just to get the ball?

Soccer, in opposite, really rocks. :proud:

There is only one football. The rest are variations on Rugby rules.

*Zidane headbutt* to you.

Football (soccer) is not very popular here in the States. While your ancesters were watching football we were mixing rounders and indian games to create Baseball, inventing the game of basketball and American Football. I'm sure if I grew up with the sport like you did I would be more of a fan but I grew up on Baseball, Hot Dogs, Apple Pie and Chevrolet!

Lol. I hate that jingle. Around here it's "Baseball, Hot Dogs, Apple Gate, and Cheverlot!" Blasted car dealerships.

The only true football is soccer. American football would have been better being called Tackle Ball.
And the chickens. Those damn chickens.

I agree. Football sounds like a game played with feet.

I don't even know what "soccer" means.

Injuries in club rugby are fairly rare. There are rules about proper tackling and though the scrum looks pretty chaotic it is actually well structured such that players are protected. Dirty play results in swift disqualifications.

Still waiting for somebody to explain to me the appeal of watching guys chase a ball (any ball) up and down a field while dodging other guys. I mean..there could be a metaphor here I am missing (on purpose) but sounds a bit...weird to me.

The appeal is the same as humans have from waging wars and torturing.Sports are just a non lethal types of war.And watching a battle/torture does indeed satisfy our needs for those things a bit(although not as much as participating, but enough for most people).

Well if the Eeeeuropeans or the ameeeeericans would have invented globalized communication a little earlier than maybe we would have called it football but we played baseball instead and reserved kicking for the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall and NFL field goal kickers.

Either way... I'm sure the game would be more fun to watch if we had packed stadiums of screaming fans at the games like we do at football, basketball and baseball games (hocket a little too) but it's just never caught on here as the social event it is around the rest of the world.

I ain't because we're silly americans or silly europeans or silly assians or silly africans or even silly aussies. It's silly television's fault!!!

After two generations of soccer moms taking the kiddos off to play soccer, you sure can't say the sport suffers from lack of exposure in the US. You would think we would have more than a couple of world class players by now.

The reason not, I think, is that the best athletes have other choices. Choices where the social and monetary rewards highly outrate those of soccer. TV in the US can't deal with the sport for its lack of timeouts for commercials. Without TV exposure and TV money, the sport can't complete for the best athletes. (Not only that, most American viewers are bored by the sport, but that's another story.)

Maybe. But if it packed the stands they'd figure out how to package it on TV.

Kids play soccer and baseball until they can convince their parents to let them play football and lacrosse or they just settle into video games.

It's not that big over here either, but it's growing, AFL has the money to offer the athletes, so a lot move to that, and even our better football players get offered more money overseas in the premier league and the like (and that's where some serious money is too!) so they depart in an awful hurry

well some more movies

some highlights

oh and just a point of interest, the Number 3 for the West Coast Eagles (that'd be my team, the premiers btw) - blue and gold jumpers - is an absolute champion of the game at 23 years of age, captain of the team, and just a freak! Chris Judd

another club champion in Ben Cousins, not so flash off the field, having just finished a stint in rehab in Miami

these next two do have explicit lyrics, parental advisory notice!

west coast in action

some more west coast

a really boring explanation vid of AFL
