Might and Magic Tribute 0.4 Released

Unread postby Angelspit » 17 Oct 2006, 20:31

Justice sends word that version 0.4 of the Might and Magic Tribute demo has been <a href="/http://www.castlegobs.nl/forums/index.p ... eleased</a> today. Ribannah explains what can be done with this preliminary release:

<blockquote><i>"This version contains the opening story of the game, with dialogues, items and two overland maps. On the 2D overland maps you can click on houses and dungeons, wells and fountains, flames, challenges and obelisks to initiate dialogues. The questbook and the log keep track of your progress."</i></blockquote>

You can download it from <a href="/https://sourceforge.net/projects/mmtrib ... ceForge</a>. Make sure you have NET 2.0 installed, as well as a recent version of Windows Media Player, before you extract the program.

Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0. You can get it at Microsoft's website; www.microsoft.com/downloads it should be among the popular downloads list.

On Topic; Great news!

Fraz has some great ideas, maybe he can help you guys program it. I'll be talking to him on Thursday, perhaps if you could tell him where to get the source code from, he might even make it multiplayer.

i wouldnt use the words "might and magic" or ubi's lawyers might jump on you. Call it a "swords & spells tribute" or something that sounds better but not owned by Ubi.

I dont think that they can sue the fans for making a tribute game.Especially not if its free.

Legally, they can. PR-wise, it would be a disaster.

DaemianLucifer is correct. Because it's a tribute, there is no violation.

UbiSoft, by the way, has known about our project from the beginning.

By NET 2.0, I assume they mean the Microsoft thing and not the movie. But as usual, Microsoft is obtuse on exactly what it is and what else you are getting into when you load it. Can someone reassure me this is going to work out better than active X?

Before you criticize someone, first walk a mile in their shoes. If they get mad, you'll be a mile away. And you'll have their shoes.
