I like custom made maps... and campaigns to be honest... Random maps are too sloppy for me...
Nothing compares to a brillantly balanced single player map.. and if it has a good story... it's just great.
H5 campaigns suck... custom campaigns? well... I've seen very few that I liked... still H4 had some very interesting campaigns...
For heroes 5... well... will wait and see

I love the campaigns. Heroes of Might and Magic 5 has a very original story too.

HOMMV: The campaigns
Previous releases: 1. User made maps and 2. Campaigns

I'm still waiting for user made maps to finally decide wether I like HV or not (after finishing the campaigns).

I voted for custom maps. I havent played random maps on H5 yet so I dont know. Maybe I would like random maps more cause it wont be so unfair for the AI when I get a headstart because I know where everything is and where to go first.

I voted Custom made maps although I love campaigns. But the campaign in H5 repels me from trying it for the second time. So fan made maps are the only way to enjoy H5 for me now...

Custom made, with enough text for a novel.

Campaign, preferably Custom. I like the ease with which a relatively high power hero can clear mines in week 1 with only his starting creatures. Even better when his army, spells and artefacts have carried over.

Though that makes for a good start, the important thing is logic and a good storyline.

I always play only custom maps. Fans make better scenarios than these already built in-game, so I never play campaigns. That's my strange personal opinion ;)

Anyhow,I woted for the campaigns, even though I prefer custom ones over the original ones in most games.Im such a sucker for an epic story. But there are some single maps that are campaigns on their own as well.

Random maps.

Regardless of wether they'll be fun to play, winnable, or even playable in the first place, a never before seen maps always give challenge not provided by other kind of maps : Uncertainty.

Besides, playing custom or campaign maps over and over is just plain boring for me.

Ubival can be proud of himself.

I voted for custom maps. Especially fan made. Especially for H4 :)

Anyway, I prefer the campaigns too since the reports of the A.I have not been so pleasing. Haven't played a custom map yet but I trust what others have said since they explained things in detail.

Oh, didn't realise that the question wasn't limited to Heroes V....

Even with Heroes IIs aggressive A.I I always preferred campaigns best. Next would be custom maps.
