Skateboarder on the road to setting world record
A 26-year-old British man who is skateboarding from Perth to Brisbane has arrived in Adelaide after taking almost three weeks to cross the Nullabor Plain.
David Cornthwaite is hoping to set a world record of more than 6,000 kilometres when he completes his journey in early January.
He only began riding a skateboard last year.
Mr Cornthwaite says getting across the Nullabor was gruelling but enjoyable.
"Before we started out I had a lot of Australians writing to me, when they heard about what I was trying to do, and saying it was impossible," he said.
"It took two-and-a-half-weeks. It's a long, long road, mate but didn't have any really major negative events."
Mr Cornthwaite is hoping to raise more than $100,000 for charity.
He says the epic journey took him 12 months to plan.
"It's not just one guy on my skateboard - I've been planning this for a year," he said.
"I've got a support team of seven people who're all dedicated to the cause.
"It's quite a nice feeling actually self-propelling yourself across the country. I know it's not for everybody but I'm certainly getting a lot out of it."
the nullarbor plain is a huge arid/semi-arid area in Western Australia, where the yearly avg rainfall is 200mm and gets up to 48.5 degrees Celsius (119.3 F)!!!

I should do that more ... anyway back onto bizarre news
Intestinal ailment ads turn stomachsBeijing has banned TV advertisements for the treatment of anal and intestinal ailments on morning rush hour buses, wary of spoiling commuters' breakfasts, local media report.
The advertisements, which featured "experts" and "sufferers exaggerating and guaranteeing the benefits of the treatments," were in the public interest, the city broadcasting authority insisted, but had caused numerous complaints and led to a public backlash, the Beijing News said.
"The television advertisements on public transport during the breakfast period had led to commuters' digestive discomfort," the paper said, citing the broadcasting authority.
"In the interests of those commuters who are in the habit of eating just before boarding, and to avoid affecting commuters' appetites, such commercials will not be aired between 7am and 9am," the authority said.
The content would be replaced by other "public interest programs" and Olympic publicity in line with Internet users' requests for more civilised material, the paper said.

YouTube Confusion Shuts Down Utube Site
OLEDO, Ohio (AP) -- YouTube's enormous popularity has created a big headache for another "utube" - a company that sells used machines that make tubes.
Universal Tube & Rollform Equipment Corp.'s Web site, utube.com, was inaccessible for most of the week, overwhelmed by millions of people looking for the popular online video site.
The confusion took off a couple of months ago, said Ralph Girkins, Universal Tube's president.

Croatia tempts tourists with cheap dental care
Croatia, already a popular holiday destination for sunseekers, is now tempting tourists with the offer of dental services at less than half the prices paid in western Europe.
Zeljko Popadic and his sister Jelena Nedeljkovic started a modest dental practice in the northern Adriatic town of Rovinj in 1997.
They had only three employees and a few local patients.
Less than a decade later, their reputation has reached foreign markets as Europeans take advantage of low prices in former communist countries.
"Some 10 per cent of our patients are foreigners and we're confident the number will grow. Most of them are Italians, but there is also a rising number of queries from the United Kingdom," Ms Nedeljkovic said, who is in charge of the administrative side of the business.
She said their services were twice as cheap as in Italy and three or four times cheaper than in England, while quality was the same.

Internet user admits 'web-rage'
An internet user has been found guilty of what police said was Britain's first "web-rage" attack.
Paul Gibbons, 47, tracked down John Jones using details obtained online after the pair exchanged insults in an internet chatroom, a court heard.
He travelled 70 miles to Mr Jones' home in Clacton, Essex, and beat him up with a pickaxe handle in December 2005.
Gibbons, of Southwark, south London, admitted unlawful wounding and will be sentenced on 7 November.
Threatening exchanges
The pair met in an internet chatroom called Yahoo, Islam 10 as both had an interest in the Muslim faith, the Old Bailey was told.
Their exchanges soured after Gibbons accused Mr Jones of spreading rumours about him.
"There was an exchange of views between the victim and the defendant which were threatening on both sides," said prosecutor Ibitayo Adebayo.
Gibbons, a man with a violent past, traced Mr Jones to his home using personal details about himself that he had put online.
Cut with a knife
Gibbons arrived at Mr Jones' home armed and accompanied by another man carrying a machete, the court heard.
Mr Jones, whose partner and three children were in the house, opened the door holding a knife for protection, said Mr Adebayo.
A fight broke out during which Mr Jones was disarmed and beaten with the pickaxe handle and cut with the knife.
Gibbons fled after the victim's partner called for help. Mr Jones suffered cuts to his head, neck and hands.
Identity safety
Det Cons Christopher Creagh, of the Metropolitan Police, said: "This is the first instance of a web-rage attack."
Det Sgt Jean-Marc Bazzoni, of Essex Police, added the case demonstrates the importance of protecting one's identity on the internet.
"Mr Jones had posted pictures of his family on the web and had chatted to Gibbons on an audio link," he said.
"It demonstrates how easily other users can put two and two together and also shows how children could also find themselves in danger."

Turkish press outraged after sick PM locked in car
ANKARA -- The Turkish press Wednesday questioned the competence of high-level security staff after an unconscious Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan was accidentally locked in his car while being taken to hospital for low blood sugar.
"A security scandal," blared the best-selling Hurriyet newspaper, decrying Erdogan's hospitalization Tuesday as "a chain of clumsiness and mistakes."
"Abandoned in the hands of fate," trumpeted the popular Aksam, while the mass-circulation Sabah asked: "What if the prime minister was having a heart attack?"
Struck by panic after Erdogan suddenly fell ill, his driver and bodyguards all jumped out of the car and slammed the doors as they arrived at the hospital, activating the vehicle's automatic lock system as the unconscious prime minister lay inside.
They reportedly struggled for about 10 minutes to break the thick window of the armored car, aided by workers at a construction site near the hospital who brought a sledgehammer and a chisel.
