There is no map folder as far as I know it.Custom maps go in the data folder,I think.

but will the game recognize these files in a self made folder? and i have tried putting them in the data folder and started a custom hot-seat game but no dice. any other thoughts ill try the make folder option.

:disagree:

The patch 1.3 should have created a folder called Maps at the root of your Heroes V directory. You cannot use custom maps if the patch 1.3 isn't installed.

somebody should sticky the basics.

maps with .h5m extensions go in the maps folder, ones with the .pak extension go in the data folder.

...and you can use custom maps with the 1.2 patch, if they are of the .pak variety.

So if my gane is currently unpatched (1.0 - European collectors edition) that explains why I can't see a downloaded H5 map. Even though I have created a Maps subfolder in the correct path / place and it is a .h5m map.
Correct?

If so, roll on the expansion. I have yet to patch due to all the horror stories. But understand the full patch range will be on the expansion disc.
Also correct?

Umm, has ANYONE patched from 1.0 through to 1.3 without problems?

Umm, has ANYONE patched from 1.0 through to 1.3 without problems?
yes, but with a caveat:

I always downloaded the patches manually, rather than using the autoupdater.

I agree with Sir_Toejam I've done it manually, and 1,2,3 no problem.

Also, going to 1.3 so that you can play fresh maps seems like excellent incentive. Do you (Bonzer) mean you don't even have all the artifact descriptions?

Ive used the auto updater fine and patched to the latest version. no problem here. sticking on 1.0 or whatever it is no matter what "stories" you have heard is pretty dumb if you ask me.

The "Maps" folder is created when you run the map editor for the first time, not during installation of patch 1.3.

Ha HA! Yes, I have! :-D Finally got bored enough to do it. Downloaded from Filefront. Downloaded the correct version (European Collectors), ran the patch, and then ran the game each time (1.1, 1.2, 1.3), just to make sure each one worked.

I can also confirm that the "Maps" folder is only created the first time you open and run the Editor. It will create the folder and save a map there for you. (Of course the "map" is empty and you can call it what you like).

I know I'm answering my own post but, I am also dead chuffed. (That means "pleased", for all you Amercan types).

I have also now downloaded the fan maps from here and guess how my weekend will be spent. :D

BTW I have also created a "Map Docs" folder in the main H5 directory to keep all the readmes that accompany the fan maps. I used to find this useful with H3.
