I,robot, the last story in the book tells how the computers that were designed to guide the countries started lying to humans in order to hide things they thought humans dont need to know about their actions they thought were best for the earth. My guess is that since kalvin said that in an interview, people rebelled when they heard about it.
Things that are very rare that I know of has happened.
Anybody know of something called Non-Alcoholic Straeto Hepititis? Most likely not, or you are a doctor if so. Or Diagnosed with it. Why is it so rare? It is only inharited..and only a very small chance of being inharited also. Even if you have it, there may never be any symptoms, so no reason it would be diagnosed. However, it is uncurable, and if symptoms do flare up, it can cause death. What it does is create a screen of fat cells arround your liver..this acts almost the same as the alocohol pserosis (probably spelled wrong) of the liver, but is a little different (thus the name). How do I know of it? Simple I have it. Every 2-3 years I have to have tests run to see if it is flaring up. Not that anything can be done about it. Even if my liver was replaced, since the disease is not in the liver itself, would not help a bit. The fat keeps the body poisons that the liver usually cleans from being able to enter the liver and puts it back in the body. It also saps energy, and other symptoms as well. People who have it, and the symptoms show up, gain weight rapidly, and that is one way of knowing it is possible.
I have also seen a person lift a car under extreme diress. This person couldn't normally lift a 50lb sack if they had to. Rare things are what they suggest. Rare. Just because it is unheard of doesn't mean it can not exsist.

Rare diseases and rare alergies are posible, yes.Ive heard of a person alergic to water.A person can(theoratically at least)be alergic to air.Though youd never find that out, since that person would die very quickly after birth. But(to turn to the reason you brought this up),phobias are not diseases nor alergies. They are a state of mind, and can sometimes be cured with extensive therapy. However, being afraid of something that envelops you whole since your birth(air)isn posible, because fear is not something you are born with, but rhather learn to fear something, although that learning process can be genetical, like being afraid of predators with sharp theeth,it still doesnt happen until late in the fetal development,or maybe after birth(Im not sure actually when the fear is first manifested in humans).
Ah but here is the thing, what if said sea elf was not raised by sea elves? Like found abandoned on a beach or something? Now this sea elf is not afraid of small things of water (like tubs, ponds, ect) as that is how he has been kept alive all this time, but large bodies of water scare him.

Yes, sea elves need salt water to survive . If not they die. Still, as I said in the other thread, it was just an example. Sometimes DL you take things to literally . Besides this is a fantasy world, who is to say he was not magically brainwashed to think water is the scariest thing in the world? Or some high level mage was the one who found him and a magical cure for the need of water was found? sure, far fetched, but this is a place that has 200' long lizards that breath fire, lightning, and gas hehe.

Like I said once already, its the best type of humor.Mytical wrote:Sometimes DL you take things to literally .
True it is a fantasy world, but its also a world of logic.Even discworld has its own logic. Why would a mage make a sea elf afraid of water?Only if he is weird sadistic bastard.Mytical wrote: Besides this is a fantasy world, who is to say he was not magically brainwashed to think water is the scariest thing in the world? Yep, he was your 2nd cousin twice removed *giggles* j/k. There are chaotic evil mages who do things 'just because'. True I actually am horrible at chaotic evil , but hey I try. Logic does exsist, but realize that your logic may not be somebody elses. The mage could have been trying to gage how long it would take for the fear of the water to be overcome by the need to dip into the water. Anyhow, we've gotten way off base here lol. It was just an example, nothing that I should have ended up posting a half dozen posts about.

Fair warning...the thing I mentioned earlier has hit me hard, so please excuse/ignore me for the next few days. I will be moody and testy. Has nothing to do with anybody anything in CH, think you all are great. In fact you have helped me put this off for now. Only a few people know why this is happening, an anniversary of something. They won't rat me out though. Regardless, may even have to hold the rpg till it passes.

Actualy there was this study i saw on Discovery about some apes that were raised without others of their kinda around and then shown a plastic snake. They weren't afraid of it. But after being exposed to other apes for a while they were. So probably not genetic.DaemianLucifer wrote:However, being afraid of something that envelops you whole since your birth(air)isn posible, because fear is not something you are born with, but rhather learn to fear something, although that learning process can be genetical, like being afraid of predators with sharp theeth,it still doesnt happen until late in the fetal development,or maybe after birth(Im not sure actually when the fear is first manifested in humans).
And the robot thing does ring a bell. Damn robots, trying to "guide" humans.

Dating after a long absense from it can be a little difficult. Almost like trying to learn things all over again. It can be even harder for couples who are of the same gender (trust me on this). Recently I went out on a date and I must admit I was really nervous. Felt like an adolecent again and it is not a good feeling when you are 32. Still she was as nervous as me, so it was all good. By now you'd think I'd be used to the stares and the whispering, but being nervous of course I noticed every last one (which in turn made me even more so). Well things got better as the night went on, and the date was a success. Still, it will only be slightly easier the next time. As they say; however, can't make a steak without buttering the biscuits ( yes this is a joke). Well that was my random rant/thought for the day .

Don't worry, you'll get to 40 and you'll wish you felt young again.Mytical wrote:Felt like an adolecent again and it is not a good feeling when you are 32.

And someday you'll get to 58 and wish you could remember when you were 32.
Before you criticize someone, first walk a mile in their shoes. If they get mad, you'll be a mile away. And you'll have their shoes.
