im not sure that all that is vital to have written down, i think myst is pretty close with the skills for any particular class ....

I think she's going by 2nd edition rules... (started playing BG1 myself, the skills are weird).

Actually I am using some house rules. Mostly 2nd edition, but some 3.5 and Shadowrun (for ease in rolling to see if something is possible, how it turns out).

Please keep in mind, it is more about the story and your actions then stats/skills/ect.

The focus is to have fun, not to number crunch. This is not the traditional D&D here with complicated graphs, thacos, ac's, ect. It is more along the lines of those choose your own adventure books. Sure, you don't want to go tackle a beholder or purple worm at this stage of the book, but there is more then one way to solve things. Combat is not always the best way, nor can you rely on creatures being the same. A troll might actually get stronger if doused in fire, while a sea elf might be deathly afraid of the water.

Hmm really? Are you sure about this? Something maybe extreamly rare but possible anyhow. See the Random Thoughts about this subject in a minute. The point was; however, that you can't judge a book by its cover in 'our' little world. You might find a red dragon that breaths flowers (odd magical mishap with a wand of wonder???).

As a side note the Wand of Wonder is probably my favorite magical item of all time. Chaos at it's best :).

Anybody know of any other items that people can't seem to make work right? I love magic items that just don't do what you want them to, makes the day more interesting..

Imagine this happening.
I invoke the cursed ring of flame to strike down everybody with a enormous fireball! Rose petals? I didn't say rose petals you blasted ring...fireball...no not butterflies...fireball! No wait, not on me...nooooooo.

Sounds like you should have created a Wild Mage character.

Hehe I would love to play instead of run the game, but that is beside the point. I do have more then a few wild mages. I love em. When a first level mage has as much chance as casting fireball as freezing his/her hair you just got to love it. Wild magic rules :). Can either make magic really powerful or really painful (to the caster). Only problem is, most sane GM's don't allow wild mages in the game. Too hard to make a list of possible effects, and since they don't normally have to memorize spells or such (they get about 2x the spells as normal mages) they can be extreamly tricky to handle. Higher level, more skilled wild mages can even change what they 'try' to cast mid cast.

ooh yeah, isn't it like an artifact? You have to play the precise notes to get an effect, or else who knows what you'll get. Can't think of the name of it though.

In one game we had a sword that had a mind of it's own. It changed after every battle, and it's magic made it so that even a mage could use it. Anyhow it would go from a +5 holy avenger (imagine a non-paladin using something this powerful) to a -1 sword of biting (or something like that where it had a chance to hurt you). It was called the sword of many colors (for some odd reason), and killed at least 5 of our crew who tried to use it. I avoided it like the plague...

The most interesting artifact I saw was morses ring(it wasnt called that,but I forgot its name).It was a ring worn on two fingers,and by pressing the right combination youd get some effects.We could either roll to see if we found a right combination,or guess it on our own(we did the second one).No one died,but we did get nasty effects from it.

Wheel of age was also interested.You spin the wheel ant it changes your age by a random number.I became a baby,and a friend got turned to dust :D

I was refering to your talk about skills on the various threads. They seemed to be about 2nd edition like skills, though it was rather vague.

And i agree with not giving them too much importance, but we should atleast figure out which we have and which we don't.

Well, I'm playing my character. He knows dragons are powerful creatures. He looks at anyone/thing as unpredictable, until he has enough time to get to know, and/or, study them.(though, still rather unpredictable. but having more trust) And he's pretty cautious about things.

Plus, my characters opinion of dragons is pretty well the same as my own.
