Map Editor Troubles: Underground

Unread postby Smoate » 18 Sep 2006, 00:44

Well I just started messing around with the map editor. It's pretty cumbersome in my opinion, but I was starting to get the hang of adding terrain and objects. Then I switched to Underground and I can't see a damn thing - it's all black and if I add especially bright objects I can barely see them through the blackness. I even tried setting the ambient light for the underground to be outdoor sunlight; I still can't see anything down there. It's impossible to do any terrain work since it's invisible, and objects can only just barely be seen if you zoom in enough. Is there something I'm missing?

Look in the editor practical guide starting on page 59 and it will tell you how to change the lighting so you can see as well as how to make light sources for the player.

Smoate, it sounds like you have forgotten to *lower* the ground. Underground level is by default solid rock, and to create a cave you need to use the lowering tool first (some say that only 3x3 brush works.)

That's true.

I have also trouble with camera angles, the normal one is unusable, if i make a custom one then sometimes i could not place anything...

Are you holding down Alt-Right Click to change your view angle? I've not had any problems in the underground doing that. Also zoom out/in with your mouse wheel.
