Unrelated Technical Question....

Unread postby Zombie_Inc » 19 Sep 2006, 16:30

How do you get a link to lead to a certain line on a webpage? Like if I want it to be scrolled down to, say, a picture at the bottom of the page?

Thx

Unless it has it's own URL i don't think you can.

If you want to link a pic then you either click on "View Image" (rightclick first) and use the adress, or "Copy Image Location" if you have Firefox (don't know about the rest of teh browsers).

If the page use anchors, you can use them to link to the location of the picture. Otherwise a direct link to the image might be your best solution.

If you end your URL with #something, user's browser will try to locate either an anchor named something (<a name="something">) or any element with id something (f.e. <img src="/someimage.jpg" id="something">) and scroll it into view. Basically, to link into the middle of a page, that page must already be prepared for this kind of linking. You can't use it with any old page you find.

And to do this here on the forum (zoom to a specific post), simply enter the poster's profile, "find all posts by" and find the post there.
