RTC FINAL:

Eenkredible Allstahs - Assassins 3-1 (dice show 4-1)

Like the Monstars made mincemeat of Bugs & co. in the first half of the Space Jam game, so did the efficient Allstahs in the first half of this one. The first goal on penalty after 15 minutes did not take away the Assassins fans' dreams of gold, but as time progressed it became more and more clear that however hard they worked, however much they pushed their opponents, it would not be enough. The Allstah kept their heads cool throughout the match, netting time and time again as if they had never done otherwise. The second half became a struggle for the Assassins, who worked their butts off for very little; that one goal was all they got, and the home team could keep their men behind the ball and ride the win home.

Celebration time for the Allstahs, cold shower time for the Assassins.

A big thank you to Kalah for all this excellent entertainment and excitement :applause: Sorry that I didn't have much time to "be present" as someone complained about, and that I'm not creative enough to come up with a better victory speach...

I do, however, have an interesting idea for the next season's championship (if there will be any?). More details will come soon.

As a small token in admiration of Kalah's work, I sat down (on the floor) with my laptop and Visual Basic (had nothing else to do while I waited for the electrician to show up in my new, furniture-less appartment anyways :snore:) and started loooking at an old, abandoned project of mine.

It was originally supposed to be a turn-based fighting game (like, Tekken vs Homm, or something), but I never had the time, inspiration, or skills to finish it properly. I realized that my ambisions had been too high when I started it. I also started doubting the very idea itself - I did not longer see the need for such a game. I guess people would rather just play Tekken or just play HoMM than playing them both at once. And I couldn't even get close to any of them when it came to graphics, animations and such. And as a dice-based game, how could I compete with yatzee, any existing roleplaying game, backgammon, etc, etc. So, there you go, just another of my projects put on the shelf.


Well, Back to the appartment: with new inspiration, and the at-that-time-not-yet-settled final in mind, I started working my old scripts. A couple of hours later, after stripping and simplifying it quite a bit, I soon realized how increadibly suitable this "game engine" was for something like The Round Table Championship.

After another couple of hours' geek-session , I just have finished my masterpiece: [insert suitable name here].

I don't really know what to call it, but it's a small application that calculates the score between two soccer teams, based on a dice roll and the teams' player formations (or whatever it's called).

An example of a 'formation' is 4-3-3, meaning 4 players in defense, 3 on the midfield and 3 forwards.

Besides a very large amount of combinations, this formation-system gives suprisingly realistic game results. For instance, an ultra-defensive team, playing a 7-2-1 formation will not be able to score more than one goal against a team playing the more classic 4-4-2 formation: The score will be 1-1 even if the dices show 6-1 in their favour. On the other hand, the very same 7-2-1 formation will not allow a 4-4-2 team to score more than 3 goals (score 0-3) if the dices show 1-6.

More examples:
6-3-1 vs 5-3-2 / dices 2 - 5 / score 0 - 2
6-3-1 vs 5-3-2 / dices 5 - 2 / score 1 - 1

1-1-8 vs 4-4-2 / dices 6 - 2 / score 11- 6 8|
1-1-8 vs 4-4-2 / dices 2 - 6 / score 3 -14 :|

5-4-1 vs 4-4-2 / dices 1 - 3 / score 0 - 1
5-4-1 vs 4-4-2 / dices 3 - 1 / score 1 - 0
5-4-1 vs 4-4-2 / dices 4 - 4 / score 1 - 2

...As you see, playing offensive will give you a longer fall when facing a superior team (superior = favoured by the dice), but also grant you more goals when the dices roll your way. In a match between two teams with equal, or almost equal, and more conservative formation (like the good old 4-4-2), however, the score will be more even.

The midfield is just as important as defense and offense, but will affect the game differently. A team can only have 10 players in total (plus 1 goalkeeper = 11), and no more than 8 and at least 1 player in each position.


So.. what do you guys think? Does is sound good? Does anybody want this system in the next round? If anyone shows interest, I will compile and upload it to the web. I would be extremely proud if Kalah wanted to use this system for the next season, especially as I've actually spent some hours on it. This way I think the RTC can be even better (and more like Rock, Paper, Scissors and less like pure luck :| )!

@Eekstah: it may also enable the changing of formation mid-season, though not mid-match. I still value the player's bonuses though; the captain is an integral part of the team. My system does not change the score by much, however. A 20% bonus only adds/takes away a single goal - yet, it can be the decider, as seen in this tournament.

Nice one eekstah.Just throw in a random number generator and it will be perfect.So instead of captain,we may choose our favourite formations and tactics.

Note that this will require a larger degree of participation by the players. If they use the same formation throughout the tournament it will be fairly simple to counter their strategy. Also, as one is not to know the opponent's strategy before a match, one would have to send me the team's formation via PM before the match.
