The Worst Dialogue You Can Remember in a PC Game.
What is the PC game with the absolute worst dialogue you can ever remember?
No restrictions: anything goes. rpg, strategy, sidescroller, whatever.
What made me think of this is that having played well over 200 PC games in the last 20 years, H5 prompted me to try to think back. I simply can't recall a game where the dialogue was so bad I wished I could just bypass ALL of it. Really, so many contradictions between the storyline and the spoken dialogues, and some of the lines literally made me ill they were so childish.
example:
in the end scene after the battle with the demon lord, ALL of the heroes say:
"Take that!"
ugh.
Now before there are dozens of off topic posts, let me say that I think the kernel of the game itself has great potential, so let's not even discuss anything but the dialogue itself. Moreover, "Eternor" pointed out that this was the first attempt at game dialogue by the writer for this game (of course, this makes me think this person should highly consider a different line of work).
so, anyway, does anybody recall a game with worse dialogue than H5?
for those that haven't played many games, a subquestion might be:
What is the most ludicrous line of dialogue in H5 that you recall?
(I'm guessing it would probably be something "findan" said)
I'm sure I must be forgetting something.

Not a PC game, but it is funny anyway:
It's a translated game in which a dialogue has gotten like this:
"Your base are belong to us".
This sentence has become famous. Google for it.
I also think: "Griphon undying" a very stupid one.

I always assumed it was the translation that was subpar, rather than the original dialogue. I'm guessing that English isn't a native language of the translator. Hearing Freya referred to as a "fine piece of booty" is certainly something no American English speaker would say
As for the original thread, Final Fantasy Tactics has a fairly poor translation, though I'll qualify that by saying that most of the dialogue is translated decently while the supplemental text (tutorials, item descriptions, spell quotes) are what give the game its reputation for shoddy translation.
PS - first thing I do when the editor comes out is create a map that consists solely of a long cutscene, where characters talk about something mundane (say, the weather) while punctuating each line of dialogue with a spell casting animation and crying "griffin eternal"

well i do remind some of dialogues from HMM III and H VII that were kind of exceptional... something like #my house is haunted by vampires, i give you 3 gold to kill them all" but hey, that is just another kind of crap.
But in my experience the bests ones remain in Baldur Gatte II, by best I mean great, not poor.

4. "You were doomed as soon as you lost the ability to love." - Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
5. "Yo gangsta! Get ready to gang bang!" - Bust-a-Groove
6. "I feel asleep." - Metal Gear
7. "You can't give it up! Triumph or die!" - Street Fighter Alpha 3
8. The DK Rap - Donkey Kong 64, Super Smash Bros Melee
9. "A Winner is You!" - Pro Wrestling
10. "Shine Get!" - Super Mario Sunshine

Before you criticize someone, first walk a mile in their shoes. If they get mad, you'll be a mile away. And you'll have their shoes.
Well, that depends on who you talk to. In some cases, there's another word that's used in place of 'booty'.Ari wrote:Hearing Freya referred to as a "fine piece of booty" is certainly something no American English speaker would say

That is indeed weird, as you can't really see her lower parts...Vlad976 wrote:Well, that depends on who you talk to. One of the reasons why i don`t like IGN, they often write random nonsense. 1; 2; 4; 6; 7; 8; 10 are translated games IIRC so they should have their own top 10 of worst translations.Caradoc wrote:Just so happens IGN has a top 10:
