Excuse me, but I was talking about Heroes of Might and Magic 3 in my post. I didn't say anything about the 5th game. You also seem to have somewhat ignored my last comment in that post. Care to share a few thoughts about it?

Lucky, as I posted a couple of times, you cannot discuss or debate taste, imo. And stories are a matter of taste.

Then why did you bring the stories of the games up for discussion in the first place?

I'm not sure as far as i'm concerned... There are good stories, and weak stories... Graphics are a matter of taste, stories are a matter of quality of writing, IMHO.

Concerning the expansion for Heroes V, I found the game to be very enjoyable (if flawed), so I'm looking forward to more content.

Because someone put in how brilliant the stories were in Homm so far.

without JRR Tolkien world would be a miserable place. we wouldnt have orcs!

although personally i hate orcs, i think goblins are so much nicer and less artificial.

Because they are.Think what you want, but there was a story in HII.And even (and I use "even" here very loosely) it beats this one.And I dont know why choice was left out from the sequels. It was really nice to choose your path through the campaign.

Agreed.

Nothing really. It's it indeed has a high quality then i'll ignore the fact that either the Barbs or the Swamp isn't there.

In theory, nothing. In execution, everything. Being idiots may be character development, but it's not the good kind. Being bland idiots is even worse.
If Catherine went crazy, took a knife and chased Lord Haart off into the wood to never be seen again i wouldn't think much of the H3 story either.

And DL, there's a story in H1 too, you just don't get to see it ingame because of when the game was made. And it's 10 times better then the H5 one.

A little bit of information about the Expansion.

Found it here: http://www.igromania.ru/archive/?108.

The new race will be dwarves. They will have new unique magic school - Rune Magic, only available to them, in addition they will also be able to use all of the other magic shools too. Rune magic is totaly different from anything we have seen before in Heroes series. For example, instead of mana it requires resources.

The small piece of text also hints that, mamooths could be one of their units.

This is cover image from the russian magazine, witch will feature the full article, probably showing dwarven Hero or unit.

See, told you dwarves were most likely. But the bloody orcs better have a stronghold type town in the second expansion.

Oh, and JJ, you said you knew some stuff... does this sound right?

any more detailed translations would be nice. shouldnt this be a news item?

also, i find it hard to believe that dwarves will be the only new race in the expansion. i was thinking dwarves and nagas/stronghold would be it, but then it is hard to make a race.

Why is it so hard to believe?Besides,JJ practically said that we can expect just one race in the first expansion.

The mag is not out yet, so all he can translate is a very short sentence.

The expansion well be announced officially tomorrow and will contain a lot of specifics. The announcement won't contain anything, though, as far as I have understood things, to have some surprises left. :) So I won't start disclosing lots of info now (but I may go a bit into detail after the announcement when I'm back on Wednesday ;) )
However, I can tell you that, yes, they will be Dwarves, no there won't be Mammooths, yes, the Hero type will be a RuneMage, yes, the racial skill will be Rune Magic, yes, it will work different from anything known so far in Heroes. I don't know the exact workings myself so far, but it looks like the skill will allow you do cast Rune Magic spells in battle by giving up Wood and Ore. The Rune Magic spells are very different from the other spells. Here is an example for a rune:
Rune of Elemental Immunity - Creature gets immunity to 2 random magical elements untill the end of combat.
Generally it can be said that the Rune spells create pretty interesting effects.

Strange idea about using resources for spells. In such way dwarves should be very resource depandable.
Am i the only one who thinks that with such system dwarves might be unplayable on resource poor maps? Or Godlike in resource rich maps?

Yes, you are. Because it's the racial special. No one said something about Dwarven heroes being unable to cast normal spells as well (and build normal Mage Guilds).
Here is for example the advanced Dwarven ability for Light Magic:
Eternal Light - Hero`s light spells are twice as hard to dispel
