that user friendly thing is just bull if you ask me, im sure 90% of people who have made maps in the previous games (and maybe other games) could easily work with the editor...its probably just missing things like obvious labels and stuff which might confuse complete noobs so they dont wanna risk releasing it
What I've heard is that the editor used for the product maps was too powerful in that it allowed mapmakers to do things that would affect other maps. We clearly can't have that.
I wouldn't be surprised if they were also cleaning up the verbage. The data file is full of misspelled words and outdated labels. To 'productize' a development tool can be a lot of work. I would guess that somewhere along the line they decided to take a shortcut and just get something to their mapmakers, leaving the polishing till later.
The reason for the lack of new maps, I'm pretty sure, is that the developers' top priority was getting the game engine into good condition for the release. Remember, they had a lot of rework that could not have been anticipated in the original schedule.
Finally, let me also note that designing, creating, tuning, and testing a map is a long process. So even if they started new maps as soon as the game went gold, they would still probably not be ready.

Before you criticize someone, first walk a mile in their shoes. If they get mad, you'll be a mile away. And you'll have their shoes.
Very simple - guys like Veldrynus do what they like and like what they do. Some other guys obviously don't. Otherwise they would test their maps at least once and wouldn't leave objects with blocked entrance.DaemianLucifer wrote:What I really wonder is if there are guys like veldrynus that can make an excelent huge map in just 2 months, with that being just their hobby, how cannot a team of people make 2 decent maps in a month when its their job?

Well,at least it means more HIV scenarios from himKing Imp wrote:It's really a shame that Veldrynus has issues with Heroes 5.
As far as I'm concerned, and no offense to anyone else here, he is the greatest map maker I have seen in the community. I really would have loved to have seen what he would have created in this game.

And there are other mapmakers that will make excelent maps.I know UT has a few just waiting for the editor to come out(although Id really like to see depileres 2 in HIV,not HV).Wimfrits will probably make some great maps here too.
But it all depends on how good the editor turns out to be.

yes.
i've seen h4 maps made my veldrynous and UT and they look very professionaly made and fun to play.. single player maps.
One cant really make a great multiplayer map if he doesnt play multi games often, against serious(in killing) players, listen to their views, having played it multi himself few times and keep updating it so to eliminate any unbalances or errors.
and ofcourse there are other things like:
cant be too chessy-cant be too lucky
cant be too decorated-cant be not enough
cant be too rich-cant be too poor
cant be too long-cant be too short
cant be too big-cant be too small
cant be too scripty-cant be not enough
must be balanced in distances, bonuses but no need to be all the same..
.. well i guess my point is, there are issues that can be dealt with a combo of Personal experience, Work and Flair. If one misses, you 'play' on the level of 'decent'

You seem to have a pretty good idea of what you want in a map. How do you think of the 10 multiplayer maps that are available in the game already? My favorite is 'heritage' because it seems to lead to an epic end battle more often than the other maps.insatiable wrote: One cant really make a great multiplayer map if he doesnt play multi games often, against serious(in killing) players,

actually i only did h5 singleplay so far, so to check out the game.
didnt pay much attention on evaluating gameplay of maps, also you need a human opponent to do that accurately, certainly they did much better job than previous homm series
ohyes , too many tall trees and mountains.. i'm sure can be very annoying under the 'stress' of an online game, with the merry-go-round 3D vision and all..
