I disagree so much with you.
A manual is not hard to make perfect. 1. You make a game. 2. You put in writing exactly how to play it with all the nuances. It is not hard, games have been doing it since nintendo! Some manuals for games now are 100's of pages long!

Yes, you are right, in an ideal world it would be like that. But I think in this case the problem with the manual is due to the premature release of the game. My advice is to start playing games not before than 3 months after their release date...

The manual is awesome, but I agree with the concerns about it being a fan made manual.
The concerns are not about the manual quality. This is one of the best manuals I've ever seen. Certainly better than many manuals made by the companies themselves. The concerns are about the fans working for free for the game dev companies.
I am sure that the manual authors will be more than happy seeing their name there, but UBI is making money (or at least saving resources) thanks to them, so they should be awarded with something else than the "official approve" seal.
It is nice to see Celestial Heavens in the credits :-)

yeah, it's kinda like the manual authors should be thankfull ubi allowed them to make it. while in fact, ubi should be really thankfull cause they saved a lot of time and money.
This Seal will distinguish the most qualitative works done by fans or communities and submitted to Ubisoft. We will consider such works as maps, mods, guides or any other element created by the fans for the game or its universe. Any of such selected element will be reproduced on the official Might and Magic webpage and be allowed to bear this Seal.

You are not absolutely right - Ubi do not need to do any manual after all. They do the game mainly for money, that's right, but it does not mean that they must do any manuals - thay can do what they want to do and I doubt that if there were no manual the sale of the game would be much worse... But if they think about future they probably will do better manual next time :-)

I have to disagree Romla. The so-called "manual" which came with the game was so cheap with almost no useful information at all. Like UbiSoft just threw together a few necessary pages but nothing else.Romla wrote:yeah, it's kinda like the manual authors should be thankfull ubi allowed them to make it. while in fact, ubi should be really thankfull cause they saved a lot of time and money.

Compare the fine manuals which came with Heroes II, Heroes III and even Heroes IV … while 3DO was facing bankruptcy … all came with a much better manual than Heroes V!
UbiSoft should be very thankful that the loyal Heroes fans love the game enough to create a manual that UbiSoft should have done and included with the game. I trust the workmanship of the Heroes fans much more than anything UbiSoft has done. UbiSoft can take their worthless "seal" and stick it where … maybe it'll take some of the lead out!

Indeed this "approved" seal sounds bad. Should have replaced with something with a gratitude.
I've seen a trend of making simple manuals in recent games, though. Not surprised to see this trend continue, since fans can check up whatever they need to know in web sites like this and AoH.

> Everything I was talking about is that they are not obliged to do any manuals, it's their game not 3DO's. You can be angry with them, but you cannot say they don't do their work. But it is of course better for the fans and therefore also for them if they make some good manual. It is also good practise these days to give manual for software product, maybe necessity, but not obligation - at least they do not have to describe all functions in their software (for example Windows manual:-)

Why don't you guys say these things in the official forum? Not too many talking about the Seal there...

And our job is to make sure they don't get it unless they make a finished product. Economic theory 101.Romla wrote:"Their job is to make money."
