Pig orcs were also in H2. I loved their return in H4. The H3 greenies sucked.soupnazii wrote:but i really did not like the pig-orcs from H4.

The orcs in LoTR are dark/light greyish-pale green, only red when they have spilled blood , the orcs in DM and propably in the expansion are orange. But since its akward to say orangeskins, redskins sounds indeed better. And orange are a close cousin to red and yellow so I have no complaints here.soupnazii wrote:yes, colorcoding is great... but i really did not like the pig-orcs from H4. there were some good things and some bad in H4, and the orcs were among the bad imo... when i think of an orc two images come to mind: the WarCraft 2 green orc peon (stop clicking on me!!) and the LotR reddish-brownish orcs. when i think of a fierce, menacing beast orc, i think of the LotR orcs, so i am glad that that is the kind of orc Ubi went for. i only think of the H4 orc when some mentions a "stupid pig-elephant ugly thing on two legs with axes"...
The only orcs from other games I can think of which are orange to, gotta be from the crappy action rpg Enclave, but in art the orcs there and in DM are not worth to compare.

just something i came up with. i didnt see anything too similar to it, but it keeps some basic themes around while adding a bit of new flavor. anywho, without further ado.
Faction: Demi-Human
Description: Hailing from the darkest jungles, the demi-humans were once normal people who became twisted and misshapen by their use of primal magic. Two different groups were formed within the singular group: the Lycanthropes (so named because most became similar to canines) sought the strength and bestial powers of the animals; and the Privileged, who tried to advance in their intelligence and cunning.
It did not take long for a power struggle between the two groups become a full war for control. Neither group wanted to destroy the other, but simply to be the rulers. At first the Lycanthropes were winning. But eventually, the advanced tactics of the Privileged prevailed. After twenty years of bloody war, the Privileged were finally able to tame the Lycanthropes and became the lords of the land.
But as the fighting died down, the flames of ambition still burned. Now they seek to expand their borders, and destroy any and all who would oppose their will. With the intelligence of the Privileged commanding the might of the Lycanthropes, they are a force truly to be feared.
Units:
Gnoll- Upgrade Gnoll Brute
Gnolls are little more than wild dogs. Were it not for the influence of the Privileged, they would not even wear armor or use weapons. They represent the ultimate devolution of humanity into animal. But their shear primal brutality tends to make up for their lack of intelligence on the battlefield.
Abilities- Enraged. Upgraded- Enraged, Disease (similar to zombie)
Merfolk- Upgrade Frozen Scales
Merfolk are among the most numerous of the Privileged. When the demi-humans first began using their primal magic, they were the first to attempt to tap into the forces of nature. They became adept at the use of water and ice magic. Now, on the battlefield they throw spears of ice to impale their foes. The Frozen Scales are the elite among the Merfolk, and it is said they have mastered the use of ice for both offensive and defensive purposes.
Abilities: Shooter. Upgraded- Shooter, Chilling Armor (same as necromancer’s chilling bones skill, dependent on number of units)
Acrididae- Upgrade Poisoned Acrididae
Perhaps the most twisted abominations of the Lycanthropes are these Acrididae. Evolving into beasts similar to locusts, these creatures possess such powerful legs they are able to jump over any obstacle. Though not as strong as some of the demi-human units, their speed and fast rate of growth in towns allows them to sow havoc all over the battlefield. Stronger Acrididae have developed the ability to poison their prey with a bite, making them slower and more lethargic.
Abilities- Jump (effectively flight). Upgraded- Jump, Slow Poison (reduces movement speed).
Werewolf- Upgrade White Wolf
A staple of the Lycanthrope troops, the Werewolf somewhat resembles a large gnoll. However, they are remarkably more powerful and vicious. They move at tremendous speeds, and rend armor with only their claws and teeth. The White Wolves are even more dangerous, as they have been known to regenerate even the most severe wounds.
Abilities- Enraged. Upgraded- Enraged, Double Attack, Regeneration (can resurrect)
Arachnid- Upgrade Arachnid Master
For all intents and purposes, Arachnids form the bulk of the ruling class of the Privileged. Augmented with a vast knowledge of magic, these half-human half-spider creatures are insidious to the extreme. They care little for the lives of anyone but demi-humans, and constantly plot the expansion of their realms and territories over the land. Arachnid Masters are so respected in demi-human society, their mere presence on the field of battle encourages friendly troops.
Abilities- Shooter, Large Creature, Caster. Upgraded- Shooter, Large Creature, Caster, Morale Boost (all demi-humans get +1 morale)
Drakon- Upgrade Drakon Warrior
Another member of the Lycanthropes, the Drakons are a massive cross between a human and a reptile. Though they retained a great deal of their human intelligence, Drakons are still slow to act due to their enormous frames. Indeed, they are big enough to have known assault the very walls and battlements of castles that the demi-humans lay siege to, and caused terror among enemy troops. Drakon warriors are even able to use their massive size to knock enemies close by off their feet.
Abilities- Large Creature, Fear, Siege Weapon. Upgraded- Large Creature, Fear, Siege Weapon, Tremors (hits all units in melee)
Coatl- Upgrade Golden Coatl
The most powerful primalists attempted to tap into the power of the dragons. The ones that were not destroyed immediately by the magic evolved into the powerful Coatls. These creatures do not possess feet at all, making them appear to be enormous snakes with dragon wings. Not only do they have the acid spray of the green dragons, they possess limited resistance to magic from their darker forefathers. It has been said that Golden Coatls can erect magic barriers to protect other demi-humans from harmful magic.
Abilities- Large Creature, Acid Breath, 20% Magic Resistance. Upgraded- Large Creatures, Acid Breath, 30% Magic Resistance, Spell: Reflect Magic

Nah,it doesnt fit the unity through race and./or theme.Although being demihuman can be considered a theme, its not.And the names definitely need improvement. But why would the arachnid give a plus to morale?
Interesting observation:It seems that lots of fans want a unit capable of sieging(I know I do).Do you think that we will get such a unit, and what it will be?My guess is it will again be cyclops role, although there is a small chance behemots will become siegers.

meh, whats in a name? i just wanted to get something down that wasnt orcs or dwarves, ya know?
and yeah, i definitely agree that i read a lot of things where people want seige units. lets face it, war machines is not that great of a skill. but without it, it can take forever to get through walls. and sometimes you just arent lucky enough to have earthquake either.
