About the Auction...

This is a study of artifact's worth in HOMM4

As an avid player of HOMM4, I have often wondered what an artifact’s real worth is and whether I over or undervalue an item compared to other players. This auction will allow us to compare what we feel each item is worth and how much we’d be willing to pay for the right to have that item. While some may be considered a “game” I consider this a great instrument to valuing items in HOMM4 so I prefer to keep it where every HOMM4 player can view it.

Terms:
This Auction has $1 Million Max (not for each bidder)
The Auctioneer (Gravyluvr) will not be bidding on any item
The Auctioneer will determine final bid and purchase price
The Auctioneer will keep track of bidders, items and currency (and limits)
NEW RULE!!!! Anyone who has won a bid in the first six lots will be getting a $5000 bonus!!!
NEW RULE!!!! Anyone who has won a bid in the second six lots (7-12) will be gettting a $5000 bonus.

Items:
There are 170 total items for sale (3 regular items have been substituted)
The 16 Gathering Storm artifacts are not included (maybe in an addendum)

Please keep in mind that we only have $1 million gold pieces to spend on all of the items – please don’t go overboard.

Items will be auctioned as individual items, however multiple items will be available for bidding at any given time (10 at a time).

Bids begin and go in minimum increments of 10 (Treasure and Item), 20 (Minor), 50 (Major), and 100 (Relic).

Ok,Ill bid for the dragonscale shield.So do I say by how much I increase,or just how I price it?If its the first,then I bid 30(second - 50).

Btw,can we use some different currency?I prefer fallout botlecaps over any other currency :devil:

I'm afraid I have little idea how to reply, because I have little idea what this is about anyway...

I take the view that artifacts are simply a boon. For example, take the Gambler's Deck artificat. If I have it, excellent, I'll use it. If I don't, it's OK, I'll make do without it. In this perspective, there are very few artifacts that are even worth bidding for. In fact, I could bid all 1,000,000 gold pieces on the Ring of Permanency, for example, but then I'd probably get thrashed by someone who bid 10 gold pieces on the every other artifact.

So I'm a little lost regarding which to pick and which not to. However, within this 10 artifacts, my list of priorities is quite clear. The Dragon Scale Shield, Amulet of Fear and Nomad Blackbow would come first (I can probably compensate for the lack of them though, and their value depends on the map). The Shackles of War, Gambler's Deck, Cap of Knowledge, Arrow of Slaying and Wand of Weakness are next (again, I can probably compensate for them). The Necklace of Charm and Purse of Penny Pinching I wouldn't bother with (I wouldn't use them unless I have no other artifact to use).

Methinks that the "value" of each artifact depends greatly on the map it is placed in. It is not difficult to invent a scenario when a player would glady exchange the grail for the four-leaf clover... Thus any bidding like this seems pointless to me.

The "value" is in relation to the other artifacts... To give you a better idea, the average price will be above 5000 - but since I think some items like the grail, robe of guardian, etc. will sell for well over ten times that, some items like a basic shield may only go for thier in-game prices (100).

Product Spotlight

Image With a Cap of Knowledge the hero gains +5 spell points and regenerates 1 extra spell point per day. Okay... if you where it you look like a nerd... but your parents will love you!

Image It's said that with a Wand of Weakness the user casts the Weakness spell (4sp-rg2/turn), which I've heard also works on the ladies ;)

Image When you use the Arrow of Slaying you have the Slayer ability during ranged attacks (which means you are like totally cool against the Level 4 monsters). And to that certain someone who asked by PM... If you buy this you will get more than one Arrow of Slaying. Every arrow you shoot will be an arrow of slaying. It's like you've got this "special" ability now so that you totally rock when you shoot.

Opening for the Cap of Knowledge (even though I hardly need it), and bidding 250 for the Blackbow.
