Seems I am quite late to post in this thread. I've been a Fallout fan for a long time. I purchased them both in the original packaging back in the day, but recently I found a compilation with just the two game CDs for 2 bucks. No manuals, but I already have those. I of course bought them, in case my originals ever died out or got lost/broken/stolen.
It's odd that you all experienced crashes with Fallout 2 so much. I never had it crash on me. By the way, that last fight is awesome if you didn't cheat. It was nearly impossible if you didn't do a certain something before-hand, and really hard if you did.

Yeah, the guys from the enclave can be useful against Kerrigan, and the guns help a lot too, but I had my party well-equipped with power armors (Vic even had a MK2) and powerful weaponry.
I played these two games as deep as I could, and the only fight I couldn't win was the one against Navarro (was it navarro?) military base. It wasn't necesary, but it's a good goal to have if you think your party is strong. Those plasma turrets are just too much, even if I plant explosives on them before my attack...
Ahhh, I just hope bethesda does a good job on the third. We've seen stupid thinks like Fallout Tactics, which was good, but it lost the essence of the game as it was just a lineal set of separate missions in limited environments, and Fallout:BrotherhoodOfSteel (PS2) which was EXACTLY the same as BG:Dark Alliance is to Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 .

Wow, very rarely did I ever have Vic in my party at the end of the game. He would always end up dead either from a lucky crit, or a random spray of bullets. I felt bad for him every time, too.
I really hope Bethesda simply goes through with Fallout 3. From what I read after hearing they picked it up, it seems like they understand the elements that need to be present in the game. Well, I didn't hear anything about the offbeat humor element, so I hope they don't get over-zealous in making a serious post-apocalyptic game, and forget the stupid/funny jokes once in a while. I just can't imagine playing a humorless Fallout game.
Then again, it would be interesting, to say the least, if Bethesda somehow tanked and went bankrupt. The Fallout curse, you know.

I usually save Navarro for right before the Enclave. With Big Guns, you've got a better range than the turrets.Crusard wrote:Yeah, the guys from the enclave can be useful against Kerrigan, and the guns help a lot too, but I had my party well-equipped with power armors (Vic even had a MK2) and powerful weaponry.

Speaking of turrets, if you've gotten the President's passkey, you can activate the internal defense systems against Frank Horrigan.
Fallout I & II are great games. Further proof of what Chris Avellone can do when he isn't rushed like he was on KotOR II.

Ah the Enclave. The only way I've ever been able to minimize losses there was to sneak in the first time and grab all the power armors I could. I believe theres a Mk II, and some "normal" power armors around. Then I'd head on down to San Fran and get as many from there as I could, load up on the big guns, and head back to stomp them into the ground.
Another thing to do if you are the unscrupulous type, is to use the exploit in San Francisco where you steal all the coins of either of the two shopkeepers (the ones with all the tables in their shops that you browse), then use those coins to pay for goods you want. Rinse and repeat for unlimited power armors, gauss rifles/pistols, flamers, heavy flamers, modified weapons, unlimited ammo for said weapons, stimpacks, super stims, drugs, books...basically everything. I think that method works with the official patches, but they fixed it in the NMA unofficial fan-made patches to the game. I usually do that after I kill Horrigan, since there's not really much to do afterwards, except pick up and finish any stray quests.
Then, of course, you can just wander the wastes, wiping out every town in the game.

Haha, that's something I never did, was complete a game as a female. I just tend to always pick males in my games.DaemianLucifer wrote:And finish what the nuclear holocaust couldtClownRoyal wrote:Then, of course, you can just wander the wastes, wiping out every town in the game.
I started fallout two as a woman first time I played. And became a porn star

Why bother with the exploit? Pump your gambling skill to about 120% go to the New Reno gambling table, and wedge your keyboard to whatever you can gamble and not consistently lose. Go read a book for an hour, and by the time you come back, your money problems will be solved for the rest of the game.ClownRoyal wrote: Another thing to do if you are the unscrupulous type, is to use the exploit in San Francisco where you steal all the coins of either of the two shopkeepers (the ones with all the tables in their shops that you browse), then use those coins to pay for goods you want.

That's a more legal way to do it for sure. The exploit is just so much faster. With even a decent steal skill, around 90%-110%, you don't have to reload all that often. I tend to make a lot of characters able to steal anyway. It takes forever, but I like going around stealing everything from everyone.Bandobras Took wrote:Why bother with the exploit? I'll have to make a gambler some day though, I've never really done it.

I am inspired to boot up Fallout 2 and make a gambler/smooth-talker character. It will be my first non-combat oriented character. This should be interesting.Bandobras Took wrote:That's the point. With a gambler, you don't have to reload at all, and you don't have to go around San Fran to get your money.
It is possible to beat the game without a single shot fired and in 15 minutes. There is a speed demo, try to find it ( i think the site is www.speeddemoachives.com but use google to find it). Youn need high Speech, computer, sneak and steal skills to do this... For last fight simply recruit 'power aremor knights' and turrets, stand back and watch...
BTW i play Fallout games for years, they are 2 best games ever made (i dont count fallout tactics)

That's a nice site. I remember watching a movie of some guy beating Morrowind in about 7:30 minutesNeedles wrote:It is possible to beat the game without a single shot fired and in 15 minutes. Awww, where's the fun in that? There's so much cool stuff to do and plots to get tangled up in.Needles wrote:It is possible to beat the game without a single shot fired and in 15 minutes.

There is something that is just entertaining about strapping dynamite to a street urchin who picks your pocket. Sucks when an entire town then turns into an angry mob. I mean, sucks for them when I beat them all with a sledge hammer. It's probably one of my greatest guilty pleasures of any computer game, with the sheer havoc you can cause in Carmaggedon 2 narrowly beating it out for first place.
