ok, so its Snow Beast/Yeti. The freezing attack for Yeti would be great, but how would that work on ranged attacks? if they work like cyclops with area attack, maybe the snow beast throws boulders and Yeti throuws snowballs, which is why he gains freeze attack. or even better: the Beast is a melee fighter, and has freeze attack. Yeti is ranged, but does the same amount of damage to every creature in a certain area as the Beast would do in a melee attack (or more damage). in melee, though, it does alot more damage.

my thought would be that they both are ranged attack...but the snowbeast only tagets one creature and the yeti has area attack..
about the chans of freezing the enemy could be the same as with the "Arrow of Stuning"artifact in heroes IV
( "Arrow of Stuning":The hero's ranged attack has the chance of Stunning the target, depending on the damage done and the toughness of the target)

how bout this then: Beast only targets one guy and does, say, 50 damage. he also has a chance to stun the enemy like you said. Yeti targets a whole area and does 40 damage to every creature in that area, but has a chance to freeze some of them. or he can decide to target a single guy to do a significant amount of more damage (maybe double, or less?), but have no chance to freeze. that sounds good... it would also be a sort of -should i upgrade or not?- situatuins, like with the peasants and archers, who lose a special ability.

As to the Crystal Dragon, yes, I believe it was originally meant to be in-game, but was removed.

There are text files for this creature, but where you expect to find Crystal Dragon's creature description, I think all it had was:

(deleted)

That it's there though, may indicate that it may be restored.

you meant it is in the game's files, in the "creatuers" folder? i dont hae the game, but if you say its there then that might mean they re thinking about re-doing it sometime.

Found it again. :)

It's in the texts.pak in the game's data folder.

Look inside the file > Text > Game > Creatures > Neutrals > Crystal_Dragon.txt

Inside, is simply (deleted)

But yes, you're right. That it's still there rather than having this txt file removed as well may mean it may make a reappearance.

There's also Naga.txt, which only says "Naga."

Lets hope the naga will be in a swamp town, since our dear rakasha took their place.

when you think about it, the Academy town has the exact same creature linup as the Tower in H3, except for the Rakshasa instead of the Naga. just because the Naga file is there, it doesnt necceserly mean they will be in the game. maybe they originally were (like the crystal dragon) part of the game, in the Academy, but then they decied they needed to change something, so removed them. otherwise, it would mean that they didnt include the Nagas there so they could save them for a different town (or neutral) later (Nagas are supposed to be water guys anyway, not desert). that would also support the theory that they called the giant "Collosus" just so they could save the name Giant for later. either way, its obvious the Naga was part of the game at an earlier stage, but was removed and might come back, just like CD.
