Ive been playing a couple of multiplayer maps this last weekend and not once did the A.I retreat from battle. Either it hates its heroes or really likes making desperate last stands.
Has anybody else experienced this? Does anybody know why the A.I seems to enjoy killing its high level heroes instead of retreating?

It ran a lot on me in campaigns.Even the scripted attackers in last heaven map ran sometimes. But it seem that the AI waits for the last moment to retreat. But this isnt quite bad though, since if he rans you are able to hire him.If he dies, you cannot do it so quickly.carlitos wrote:Ive been playing a couple of multiplayer maps this last weekend and not once did the A.I retreat from battle. Man, I hated it that the H3 AI always surrendered its high lvl heroes when I was about to win then just hired them again... but stuff like that made for a good AI.
Is anyone else annoyed that after you defeat the enemy hero he shouws up in ur tavern the next week, or even sooner if you hire another hero? Or did that just happen to me in the 3rd Dungeon map?

Exactly….being suicidal is just destructive for the A.I. Seems the programmes gave the A.I a little Russian personality (since they have the highest suicide rate in the world.).
It seems that the heroes you have defeated quite quickly show up in your tavern. During the sessions (hot seat) I played last week end, you could always find the other player’s hero in you tavern a week or so after you killed them.
This can change the balance of a game pretty quickly. You get 2 + power full heroes while the opponent is left with low level heroes.

I've only had few battles VS the A.I on multiplayer maps.carlitos wrote:Ive been playing a couple of multiplayer maps this last weekend and not once did the A.I retreat from battle. Either it hates its heroes or really likes making desperate last stands.

From my experience, A.I in fact did flee when it was clear it was going to lose ... but in H5 it's pointless to flee since the hero will then show up in the Tavern anyway - for the HUMAN player to hire
Kinda stupid
Havent noticed any retreating behavior from my point. Well at least the A.I isnt such a coward as in H4 hiding in the towns all day, except when its waiting a day or two until the next week begins, so it can hire new troops, then start to charge into your territory. Also I was able to hire both the dungeon heroes I defeated in dungeon map 3 the day after or even at the same day! Which is a bit lame, they should show up at least the next week instead.

I've played almost the entire series of campaigns, and have yet to see the AI retreat once from battle, and that includes foregone conclusions of the AI losing badly.
Like others have mentioned though, I'm not sure it matters... I seem to find the enemy's high-level heroes that I defeated in MY taverns in short order after they are defeated by me.

That's interesting, as it seems to suggest that the losing hero has abandoned the original sides cause, and will willingly join the next player who happens to look in their tavern (Heroes are a fickle bunch).Wolfshanze wrote:Like others have mentioned though, I'm not sure it matters... Maybe the time it takes before they end up in the tavern should be increased though.
If they flee on the other hand and the player who's hero lost is quick enough, they can be re-hired back at their home tavern (of course they will appear in other taverns as well).
I think it is difficult to judge the A.I based on how it performs in the campaigns as the A.I is indeed heavily scripted. Maybe it is scripted not to flee from battles during those campaigns?.
However, when playing those multiplayer-maps were the A.I is NOT scripted, it does flee. Just played one game more and again the A.I fled when it had lost some 90% of its troops and was greatly outnumbered so this has happened more than once to me now. I played with "Heroic" difficulty. Maybe it affects A.I behaeviour..
Could it also be that scripted A.I does not flee while the "un-scripted" A.I does?
Not that it really matters since as long as the human player can hire the "enemy" hero right after the battle from a tavern, the outcome is always the same anyway. This should really be fixed!

I second this. Sure, it was fun and easy to kick the computers @$$ after hiring all his defeated heroes, but it's not really good for balance.Saurus wrote: Not that it really matters since as long as the human player can hire the "enemy" hero right after the battle from a tavern, the outcome is always the same anyway. Anyway,I had to flee a few times myself and never did I see the AI buy those heroes.Even though he has the money.I once waited from day 3 till day 7 to repurchase my hero.
