Anyone running Heroes V on a Radeon x300?

Unread postby brycej » 21 May 2006, 23:40

Yes, I have a cheapo Radeon x300 w/ 128 meg.

3.2 P4 with 1 gig mem.

Wondering whether I should buy H5 with such a gig. ;|

i don't have an x300, but if ppl can play the thing with an FX 5200, then you should be fine with an x300, as long as you don't want maximum aa and af and the like

I have x300 PCIe, P4 2.8 HT, 1.5 GB RAM.......haven't got the game in the mail yet, but should be soon (preordered it from UBI). Beta/Demo worked ok with it though, so finished product should be same or better.

don't necessarily bet on that urbanmonk

cause teh demo did not have any large tree dominated maps, those are teh ones that have caused the bigger problems .... but i think you will be fine, just some stutters maybe

I have almost the same system (3.0GHz P4, 1 gig mem, 128MB x300 video) and it works beautifully. The only slowdown of any sort is SOMETIMES when rotating the camera at a very low angle with lots of trees- and even then it isn't too bad. (and many people with much better vid cards are seeing the same problem)

Yes, that's true. I have a somewhat good video card, but it doesn't really support the lowest view angle or the tree masses. I think many of the performance issues in general come from memory leaks, which could get fixed in future patches... maybe.

After seeing a friend run HOMMV on an Athlon 64 3000+, 512 RAM and a 9800Radeon Pro and watch unplayable framerates (below 5 FPS) when looking at certain cardinal points in some maps, I think the game may simply not be optimized for AMD.

I´m going out on a limb but there´s simply no explanation for the crappy performance. At first I thought it was the graphic card (and blamed my Geforce 6600 GT!!) but I´ve seen people with TI4100 cards running it nicely. There has to be an answer as to why lowering all settings and res (down to 640) makes no difference.

Maybe Pentium owners are just blessed?

Khel.

Actualy the game seems to run better at 1024. Damn weird. Guess they only optimized it for that res.

Well, I'm playing at that res., and it still looks like it could use huge hauls of optimizing. Go figure. :disagree:

Hi stefan, which AMD is that?

There are many people -me included- who have better vidcards but get noticeably bad performance.

If you could just do this test
http://forums.ubi.com/groupee/forums/a/ ... 2841042644

and post your results in the thread referenced I would greatly appreciate it.

Cheers,
Khel.

So far seems to run well only on low setting. Getting some sound feedback noise on normal setting. Going to have to play with it some more, see if I can make it better.
I have:

P4 2.8 HT
1.5 GB Ram
Radeon X300

Room for optimization? Oh yes indeed! I have a AMD X2 4800+ duel core on the newest motherboard from Asus with 2 gb ram and GeForce 7900 GTX and every time i tilt the view to a low angle the game slows so much down that it almost stops.
