Cheating Death

Unread postby Sikon » 15 May 2006, 16:41

Alexander Tikhonov, a Nival developer posting on the Heroic Corner forums under the name "tu.sha", has made a post saying that cheat codes will be not only disabled, but completely removed from the retail version of Heroes V.

I cannot read that!Anyhow, without the editor, there really is no need for cheats.Their true usefulness shows just in testing maps.

Still, why would they take them out? We're not all that good at playing, and after we buy it, it's our decision how we want to play. Ah well, if the data.pak is still the same, I won't mind tinkering with it...

maybe it's to make us downloaders have to replay all campaigns upon release.

Because importing save games would be imposible. Hmm... guess we'll be seeing trainers for this game.

There will be "less cheaty" cheat codes, but they will be disabled. "More cheaty" ones will be outward removed.

Cheats are a must for map testing, Period! I don't get it, Ubi/Nival seems to enyoy cutting away all good things from previous versions.

By enabling them through editing config files, duhhh.

P.S. Woohoo, I'm a Pixie now! Should celebrate that with a new avatar...

Well I only speak English but I went to the link you gave by clicking on the word 'post" and seen only one place on the page (page162) of the russian site with tu.sha's name where he posted. Than I used Babelfish

( http://babelfish.altavista.com/ ) to translate Tu.sha's post and this is how it translated that post, Quote, "On 14 May 2006, 22:07, SashBash he wrote: once no one knows as to pass it can who- thread it will say chit as it complete...

(tu.sha wrote:) In relize of Chita not only they are opened (everything), but also they are cut out (quite chitovye "Unquote.

So, is this the post you were referring to? Because I don't see where this post even comes close to talking about cheat codes staying or being removed unless the babelfish translation didn't translate it correctly.. I was wanting to read the whole article on the subject. hmmm

I don't see how removing cheat codes has anything to do with protecting the game so what purpose would it be to remove them? As for testing a map I never used cheat codes, I always went thru the editor to give myself a temperary big army and then if my map passed my testing, I removed the temp army for gameplay..

Cheats make that operation a lot easier...
Oh, and Babelfish doesn't exactly give the best translations... not even adequate (my experience, at least).

I don't like that some lazy, worthless players can just cheat through everything and get to see the cutscenes without fighting for it just like people do in WarCraft and StarCraft.

And isn't the possibility to just give yourself a superarmy in the editor good enough? Cheaters need to sufffer.

I agree mostly, having the minor cheats still editable will still alow for some to make there life a tad easier.. though i personally think it ruins the entire game if you cheat

Cheats are some kind of feature. It's nice fooling around with a kick-ass army to fight a major battle, knowing you can't lose. Especially when you're stressed. The demo wasn't too simple, so I presume some maps might pose problems.
I have probably offended you in this post. if you take it too harshly, it's your own responsability. I, for my part, never intended to.
