Whoa, digging this thread up.

Finished reading of "The Blinding Knife" and being very pleasantly surprised. This was refreshing, characters feel vivid and imagination works. Different words describe not so different world.

There are two more in the series awaiting. :D

So after finishing the Lightbringer series by Brent Weeks, I'm thrilled about fourth books of that trilogy, The Black Mirror. It seems to be very positive with it, so soon back to the world where you can draw your magic and not just literally be mired in politics. There's that positive interview with author. Regarding it's aga, Amazon confirms with scheduled publish date October 25, 2016.

All should be tied here. :D

Greetings old RT Community! Long time no post.

I'm currently reading Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson.

Fun digging through some old threads as I'm playing the Tawni/Girly/Cyrca campaign and was just looking up creature stats to remind myself of my preferred chaos strategy, which I play the least. Hope everyone has been doing well in RL.

Nothing, because GRRM is horrible at estimating how much time he needs to finish a book.

Also, F U 2016.

Expectations are high, still didn't got a chance to read it.

Lightbringer #4 - The Blood Mirror, a fourth book from a trilogy. One of few which had high rating on amazon even before release date, as anyone can add rating just when placeholder is up.

Meanwhile I'm consistently looking, if it wasn't released in my region. You know, that damn license, even more rigid for e-books, whereas it's actually possible to order it on paper via amazon. And meanwhile somewhere else, they are creating conspiratorial theories about.

On reddit. :D

The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress by Robert A. Heinlein. I also have to find how to play clubofpassion games. Everything looks pretty simple, but I don't know how to install them on my phone. What the hell?

Yes, I recommend it very much.

Kazuo Ishiguro recently won the Nobel prize, that's why I was interested to check it out and I did not regret it!

I read a little cute book "I Play to Live" by D. RUS (In original it's "Играть, чтобы жить"). This is a funny jewel, which can drag you in. Tech Fantasy about playing a MMORPG, which can be more real than a real world. :gking2:

Positives:
* main hero is not evil
* but he's extraordinary lucky
* re-invites (secure) smoking in MMORPG
* and being Alchemists and Dark Knight, propagating dual-class

Negatives:
* Read part one and it's short.
* Don't expect any answers like 42, but the reading is easygoing and well-thought
* Limited *** **** in Isaac Asimov's books.

Long Walk to Freedom - Mandela

I started and stopped this book about 5 times since I studied abroad in South Africa, with his passing I decided it was finally time to complete it. Once you get into it, it is really a great book.

Currently reading "Things that Matter" by Charles Krauthammer. It is a collection of his work over the last two decades or so and covers a wide range of issues.

I re-reading the fourth book of the Expanse Series, Cibola Burn. Have many books to read on physical form, bought the last couple of years but never touched. Seven Novels of Jules Verne, Sherlock Holmes complete works, a couple of Stephen King's novellas, Dante's Inferno. I'm very fond of fiction books, but I also got some real-deal books needing some love as well.

Hi guys
Holidays are almost over and I'm reading the last book of the Crimson Empire (which I think is ok but not memorable). Trying to decide what new fantasy series to pick up next..
Based on my preferences, which one would you recommend?

The following are currently on my shortlist:
Mark Lawrence - The Red Queen's War
Michael R Fletcher - Manifest Delusions
Miles Cameron - Traitor Son Cycle
Andrzej Sapkowski - The Witcher
Joe Abercrombie - The Age of Madness (though I prefer to save this for a later moment)

My top 8 all time favorites are:
1. Steven Erikson - A Tale of the Malazan Book of the Fallen
2. R. Scott Bakker - The Prince of Nothing
3. Stephen Donaldson - The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever
4. Joe Abercrombie - The First Law
5. Tad Williams - Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn
6. Stephen King - The Dark Tower
7. Peter F. Hamilton - Night's Dawn
8. Joe Abercrombie - Shattered Sea

I particularly enjoy flawed (realistic) characters, gritty action, intense magic and great world building

In terms of professionally published works: I was making my way through the Magic Kingdom of Landover series for the past month (I've got the first three books in an omnibus), and now I've moved back to an old favorite of mine: The Hobbit.

In terms of amateur works and fanfiction: I've been on a Persona 5 fic kick lately; I've read The Disappearance of Goro Akechi up through to current, and also went through the Confide in Me duology.

Responding to my own post.. I ended up picking up Manifest Delusions, and just finished book 1: Beyond Redemption.

Experience was awesome. Unprecedented reality, unexpected plot (even for a well-worn fantasy enthusiast such as me), totally insane magic system, gritty and full of dark humor.

Only con is that I just read somewhere it will be a trilogy instead of a duology and only 2 books are written currently
